Video: Virat Kohli congratulates PV Sindhu for entering the Women's Singles final at Rio Olympics

Indian Test captain and batting mainstay Virat Kohli sent his congratulatory message to PV Sindhu, for progressing through to the Women’s Singles final at te 2016 Rio Olympics on Thursday.

The 27-year-old, who is at the moment in Trinidad, competing in the final test of the series against the West Indies, took to his Facebook page to express his delight over the Indian reaching the final.

“Hi, PV Sindhu. I wanted to congratulate you for guaranteeing India its first silver medal at the Olympics. You made the country so, so proud and tomorrow’s going to be an epic medal, an epic clash,” the right-hander said.

The cricketer has been quite open in his support of other Indian athletes in recent times, coming to their defense last week when he was asked about their lacklustre showing at the Games, by stating that the sportspersons from the country give their 100% and some of them don’t get even have 10% of the facilities that others do.

“India’s Olympic athletes give their 100% in what they do and we understand that. Some of them don’t have 10% of the facilities that sportsmen in other country have. And then we sit in our country and compare. That’s disappointing, these athletes are giving their all in getting a medal for us.

“I think we need to stay positive with all the events that are left and we must give credit to the guys that have gone and competed as well. Because it’s so hard for them. If you see the training facilities in other countries you will see the disparity,” Kohli had said.

He also reacted to Sakshi Malik winning India's 1st ever medal on Thursday and termed Usain Bolt as the 'bestest ever'.
