The recent comments made by Conor McGregor, where he claimed to 'slap the head off' the entire pro-wrestling industry, created a buzz in social media. Although the UFC Featherweight Champion is now more focused on his upcoming fight with Nate Diaz at UFC 202, WWE is trying to keep that story alive. Hence, in several interviews, WWE is allowing the wrestlers to take a shot at the Irish-born UFC Champion.
Earlier today, the former WWE Champion Seth Rollins appeared on ESPN Sportscenter to promote Summerslam and made some notable comments regarding Conor McGregor. Rollins told ESPN that this shoot against pro-wrestlers was nothing but a publicity stunt of Conor :
"It sounds to me like Conor's trying to take a page out of our game and trying to sell a couple extra pay-per-views before Saturday. It's just Conor being Conor. He's just doing his thing.”
The 2-time WWE Champion mocked the height of the Featherweight Champion and invited him to step inside the squared circle against ‘The Man’ himself or any other professional wrestler :
“If he was serious about it, guy’s 5’6”, 145 or whatever he walks around at, I don’t know, but you can see me here, I’m a full-size human being, so if he wants to come around and try to slap the face off me or whatever insult he’s got for the day, by all means, come step into our ring and see what you got.”
Like WWE Hall of Famer Booker T commented, Seth also took a shot at Conor being a ‘Featherweight’ :
“I think he’d make a fantastic cruiserweight. You know we’ve got a new cruiserweight division coming to Raw were the guys have to be 205 pounds or less, so he could fit right into there. If he wants to come into the ring with the heavyweights, he might need to eat some pizzas and drink a few more gallons of milk.”
This interview again highlighted that WWE wants to continue this feud between pro-wrestlers and mixed martial art performers. With several rumors indicating that some UFC stars will be appearing for WWE, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Conor McGregor is indeed spotted near the squared circle,
Apart from his comments regarding Conor, Seth also talked about his match at Summerslam and seemed confident about his victory at the upcoming pay-per-view. At the event, Rollins will face Finn Balor to determine the first ever WWE Universal Champion.
