Donald Trump has a very strong connection to the WWE. Aside from partnering with the company to be a host of both WrestleMania IV and WrestleMania V, Trump has also been an on-screen personality on several occasions. As a result, Trump was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013. The relationship between Trump and Vince McMahon proves that the President-elect is subject to show up on WWE programming anytime.
Perhaps the most memorable moment of the Trump/McMahon relationship was their feud in 2007. Not only did Donald Trump war with McMahon, but he risked his hair against the chairman in a hair versus hair match at WrestleMania 23. Trump was represented by Bobby Lashley, while Umaga represented McMahon. The finish saw Umaga, with a bit of assistance from “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, defeat Umaga, causing Trump’s head to be shaved. Recently, WWE executive Triple H was asked whether we will see “The Donald” once again in the WWE (h/t WrestlingNews).
Wouldn’t that be something, see who gets their head shaved.
While the answer was a bit vague, it does not completely rule out a return for the President-elect.
WWE.com relived the “purchase” of Monday Night Raw in 2009, making one episode commercial-free.
The business magnates locked horns again in June 2009 when Trump purchased Monday Night Raw and immediately announced that next week’s show would air commercial-free and that every WWE fan that who purchased a ticket would be given a full refund. The trademark Trump PR public relations flourish nearly made Mr. McMahon’s head explode and forced him to buy his show back from The Donald for twice the price.
Interestingly, WWE has once before had a “president” involved with the company. During the term of Bill Clinton, the company had an imposter appear on television. Former WWE announcer Todd Pettengill interviewed “Clinton” at WrestleMania X after he was seen in the crowd. While it was a funny moment in WWE history, it did not turn out to be one of the most well-received.
However, now it will be the real deal.
It would indeed be interesting to see Donald Trump appear on WWE television once again. Also, it would show his dedication to the brand if he shows up while president of the United States.
