WWE Power Rankings: 29 August 2016

The new feud in town

The past seven days proved to be an action-packed one for the WWE fans. We saw a title being relinquished, a huge debut, some new contenders being crowned and much more. All of these resulted in huge momentum shifts for the WWE wrestlers and this was reflected on the Power Rankings as well.

As the week that is going to come has enough firepower to keep the fans glued to their seats, it would be the perfect time to take a look at who comes in with huge momentum on their back and who comes in in desperate need of a push. With that said, here are the Power Rankings for this week.

#10 Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson

The Club ruined the farewell of Dudley Boyz

Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson have been involved in a program with New Day for quite some time now and it continued the past week as well. Though they took a blow at the hands of Big E, Anderson and Gallows made an impact at the farewell segment of the Dudley Boyz. The Dudley Boyz had expected to go out with their heads high after getting rid of Shining stars.

However, Gallows and Anderson had other plans and ended up disrupting the party altogether. This week around, they will be looking to seek revenge against New Day and settle the score.

#9 Dolph Ziggler

Ziggler is apparently out of the title picture

Dolph Ziggler’s title aspirations came to a standstill at SummerSlam when he lost out to Dean Ambrose cleanly. Though we did expect him to get another immediate shot at Ambrose, WWE decided to take a different route altogether. Ziggler lost out to AJ Styles in the race to be the new number one contender and unless WWE comes up with a big push for him this week, Ziggler is most likely on his way out of the rankings.

A shot at the Intercontinental championship would be a good move and anything less than that would put Ziggler back in the mid card for the time being.

#8 The Miz

Miz broke the internet last week

Miz was the major talking point of this past week. First of all, he retained his title successfully at SummerSlam at the expense of Apollo Crews and later on Talking Smack, he delivered a promo that ended up breaking the Internet. He once again underlined the fact that he is one of the most underrated superstars on the WWE roster at this moment.

The Miz is expected to face the consequences of his promo this week on SmackDown and no matter what WWE comes up with, the fans will be eager to know that Miz is up to for his next program.

#7 Seth Rollins

Still in run for the title

Seth Rollins started off his week with a loss against Finn Balor at SummerSlam. Though he lost out the WWE Universal championship on Sunday Night, the injury of Finn has turned out to be a blessing for Rollins. He qualified for the fatal four-way match to determine the new champion by defeating Sami Zayn and this offers Rollins with the opportunity to rise up the rankings next week.

He is indeed a top contender to walk away with the gold on Monday Night and if he does that, we can expect Rollins to be in the top half of the Power Rankings next week.

#6 Roman Reigns

A title win could change things

Roman Reigns went against Rusev for the United States Championship at SummerSlam but a tainted finish worked against the Samoan Superman. On the night that followed, Reigns qualified for the fatal four-way Universal championship match by defeating Chris Jericho despite the interference from Kevin Owens.

Just like the situation with Rollins, Reigns is also a favorite to win the gold on Monday Night. Reigns took a big blow due to his wellness policy violation and it would be great for him if he gets hold of the title after all. Irrespective of the outcome, Reigns will have the limelight shining on him which is a great thing.

#5 New Day

Still champions

The New Day had a great week altogether. First, they managed to keep their Tag Team championships intact at SummerSlam even though a great challenge was posed by Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows. Later, on Monday Night, Big E came up with a dominating performance and it was good to see Big E back in the mix.

The program between New Day and The Club is far from over and we can expect a new segment between these two teams on the latest edition of Monday Night Raw or WWE could come up with a new storyline for the reigning tag team champions.

#4 AJ Styles

Title bound

AJ Styles successfully beat up John Cena at SummerSlam. It was a huge win for the Phenomenal one and he has cemented his position on top with the win. Later, on SmackDown, AJ Styles enjoyed more success when he defeated Dolph Ziggler to become the new number one contender for the WWE championship. AJ now has a date with Dean Ambrose at Backlash.

His program with Ambrose will be the major attraction of this week’s SmackDown and this once again puts AJ under the limelight. He has a chance of winning the title and climbing the ladder and the coming week will give us an idea on how WWE is planning to play out this feud.

#3 Brock Lesnar

Lesnar made a huge impact on Sunday

Brock Lesnar might’ve missed out on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw, but he made enough impact on SummerSlam to keep him in the top three of the Power Rankings. Lesnar left Randy Orton as a bloodied mess at the pay-per-view and everyone now has only one question about the beast: Who will stop Brock Lesnar.

WWE is apparently going on to have a Shane McMahon – Brock Lesnar program for Royal Rumble if we go by the rumors and the confrontation that these two had at SummerSlam could be the first seed sown towards the same. Either way, Lesnar’s next program will draw eyes after what happened on Sunday night.

#2 Charlotte

Charlotte is leading the pack

The Women’s division of Monday is once again on the shoulders of Charlotte as she regained the Women’s championship from Sasha Banks at SummerSlam. Sasha’s injury had a huge role to play in the decision but then again, Charlotte getting another title reign shows the amount of faith that WWE has about her.

The debut of Bayley has made matters interesting and a Charlotte vs. Bayley program might be on the horizon. We might get to see the battle lines draw this week itself. Charlotte’s storyline with Dana Brooke is also one worth tuning into and altogether, it’s a good time to be a fan of Charlotte.

#1 Dean Ambrose

On the top

The Lunatic Fringe is turning out to be a consistent champion that WWE could bank on. He successfully outclassed Dolph Ziggler at SummerSlam to retain the WWE championship. Ambrose winning the match clean showed that he is here to stay for the time being. He recognized AJ Styles as his new contender on SmackDown days later and the way he looked at his competition suggest that Ambrose has no intentions of backing down.

As mentioned earlier, the AJ Styles – Dean Ambrose storyline is bound to be an interesting one and if pulled off in the right manner, Ambrose could end up taking his character to a different level after this.
