5 Superstars who could return at SummerSlam

SummerSlam, one of WWE's most popular PPVs, has seen some great encounters and drama through the years. The 2018 edition of the iconic PPV will be the 31st edition, and will most likely be headlined by Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns, in what is rumoured to be Lesnar's final match in WWE before he returns to UFC.

A big PPV like SummerSlam could also see the return of a WWE Superstar to the ring, to make an impact and back in the hearts and minds of the WWE audience. These returns - either from an injury layoff or after a long time away from the business - get the loudest pops.

At the SummerSlam PPV this year, at the Barclays Center in New York, any one of these five returns will get a huge pop from the New York audience! So, without further ado, let's have a look at the 5 Superstars who could return at SummerSlam 2018.

#5 The Rock

The Rock may have started his career in the WWE and become a megastar in the business, but not many expected him to become a huge star in Hollywood, too. The People's Champ has had one hit after another, the latest being Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, where he stars alongside Jack Black and Kevin Hart.

But we may see him on WWE television soon, with rumours emerging that he's interested in returning to the ring and he himself confirming the same.

It is no coincidence that The Rock was called out by another guitar-wielding Superstar in Elias, on RAW. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer said that there may be a reason for Elias to 'name drop' The Rock and that we could see the two in the ring.

Perhaps we could have a "guitar-off" at SummerSlam, which could probably be built for a match at WrestleMania next year.

#4 The Undertaker

We are still unsure of Undertaker's current status; it's quite mysterious, just like The Phenom's character over the last two decades or so.

But there have been rumours about him returning and probably facing off against John Cena once again, this time at SummerSlam. At WrestleMania, after weeks of prodding by Cena, The Undertaker finally accepted Cena's challenge at WrestleMania.

But, surprisingly, it was a squash match, with Cena losing to The Deadman. There has been no build to the match and we haven't even seen John Cena on WWE television for weeks, which is quite understandable after all that he has gone through in his personal life recently.

Could we maybe see The Undertaker return to challenge someone?

#3 Big Show

We haven't seen Big Show in a match in WWE in almost a year, with his last appearance coming on a RAW show on September 4th, 2017, where he faced Braun Strowman inside a steel cage. In that match, he was thrown through the steel cage and helped to the back.

Since then, Show has had a hip surgery and was present at this year's Hall of Fame, inducting Mark Henry.

Earlier this year, when there were reports that his contract had expired and that he was to retire, Big Show sent a cryptic message with the words "Haven’t gone anywhere…” indicating that he's here to stay and has more to offer.

Could he maybe put over some younger star and help in their progress? That is quite a possibility considering how generous he has been over the years in helping younger talent.

#2 Nia Jax

Nia Jax hasn't been on TV since the Extreme Rules PPV, where she lost to Alexa Bliss. The former RAW Women's Champion is reportedly rehabbing after she sustained an injury, which has not been disclosed by the WWE.

Jax could interfere in the RAW Women's Championship match between Alexa Bliss and Ronda Rousey, and perhaps help Bliss win the title and once again be a part of Team Bliss.

#1 Neville

Neville, one of the best Cruiserweight Superstars on the WWE roster, hasn't appeared on WWE television for almost a year. There have been reports that he was unhappy with WWE and WWE are making him wait till the expiry of his contract before he can leave.

The relationship between the WWE and Neville seems to be broken, but it is the best for both parties to mend fences as they both need each other.

His last match was on September 26th, 2017, against Ariya Daivari, just two days after losing the Cruiserweight title to Enzo Amore.

Dave Meltzer recently reported that Neville is back in the UK and not doing any wrestling, but perhaps SummerSlam is when he returns back to the WWE and puts on a show like only he can!

Cedric Alexander, the current Cruiserweight champion (who incidentally called out Neville for being a "quitter" recently) defends his title against Drew Gulak at SummerSlam. An attack by Neville after the match will get a huge pop from the WWE Universe and help the ailing 205 Live show.
