रियो ओलंपिक्स के महिला बैडमिंटन फ़ाइनल में पहुंचकर भारतीय बैडमिंटन खिलाड़ी पी वी सिंधु ने इतिहास रच दिया। हालांकि फ़ाइनल में वह दुनिया की नंबर-1 खिलाड़ी स्पेन की कैरोलिन मरीन के हाथो 21-19, 12-21, 15-21 से शिकस्त झेलनी पड़ी।
लेकिन वर्ल्ड रैंकिंग में मरीन से कहीं पीछे नंबर-10 पर खड़ी सिंधु ने जो जज़्बा दिखाया वह क़ाबिल-ए-तारीफ़ था। सिंधु पांचवीं महिला हैं जिन्होंने ओलंपिक्स में भारत के लिए पदक जीता है, लेकिन रजत पदक जीतने वाली हैदराबाद की सिंधु पहली महिला हैं, यानी सिंधु का ये रजत पदक कहीं से भी स्वर्ण से कम नहीं।
इस जीत के बाद भारतीय बैडमिंटन संघ ने सिंधु को इनाम के तौर पर 50 लाश रुपये और उनके कोच पुलेला गोपीचंद को 10 लाख रुपये बतौर इनाम देने की बात कही है। सिंधु के रजत पदक जीतते ही सारा देश ख़ुशियों से झूम उठा और इस पदक की चमक ने ट्विटर को भी चकाचौंध कर दिया।
