5 Indian cricketers who are not in the reckoning anymore

<p>

The Indian Cricket Team are having the best time among all cricketing nations as they have managed to put on some brilliant performances both overseas and at home in the last decade. The team has grown leaps and bounds with the team setting up new benchmark levels in fitness and cricketing skills.

The Indian Cricket team has undergone a complete facelift in its squad in the last couple of years. The selectors have moved on from past Indian heroes like Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir, Harbhajan Singh, Yusuf Pathan and have found suitable replacements in the form of Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, etc.

With the team having a plethora of rich talent and an excellent reserve or bench strength, the Indian team is one of the clear favorites to win the World Cup.

During the transition of the Indian squad, not many of them could sustain their place in the XI and have found themselves nowhere near in making a comeback to the squad. Here in this slider, we take a look at those players whose value has gone down completely.

#5 Jayant Yadav

Jayant Yadav

Jayant Yadav, the Indian bowling all-rounder was once deemed to be India's 'next Ravichandran Ashwin in the making'. Yadav possessed similar qualities as that of Ashwin's, be it his spin bowling skills, handy batting skills, and overall fielding skills.

In the 4 matches he played for India, he took 11 wickets and also scored 228 runs at an average of 45.60. He also played some crucial knocks which proved to be vital for the team's cause. Despite these scintillating performances, his father's demise and an injury blocked the way and he hasn't managed to recover fully from the lows of his life.

In this year's IPL, he wasn't given a single chance to play by Delhi Daredevils as he was overlooked in favor of Nepal's rookie leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane.

#4 Barinder Sran

Australia v India - Game 1

Barinder Sran was considered the solution to India's never-ending quest for a left-arm pacer ever since the retirement of legendary pacer Zaheer Khan. Despite making strong starts as a bowler, Sran couldn't capitalize on his steady start as he seemed to leak too many runs in the middle overs which aren't ideal for any bowler or team.

In the 6 matches he played in this year's IPL, he conceded 229 runs at an economy rate of 10.40. Also, he couldn't manage to take any more than 4 wickets.

He hasn't donned a blue jersey since 2016. As India's renowned modern era left arm pacers Jaydev Unadkat and Barinder Sran have been far from being effective, the selectors have moved on from their search for left-arm pacers and have found able replacements in right arm bowlers.

#3 Piyush Chawla

CRICKET-ICC-WORLD-T20-MATCH10-IND-ENG

Piyush Chawla, the leg-spinner from Uttar Pradesh was once a huge revelation for the Indian team. During the period of 2009-2012, the spin duo of Piyush Chawla and Harbhajan Singh bolstered India's spin attack and their combination also proved to be a breakthrough of a game changer and a force to reckon with, for the batsmen.

However, with the emergence of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, the duo was no longer considered the best and gradually found their way out of the national set-up. Chawla last played for India in 2012 against England. This shows the massive downfall of Piyush Chawla.

#2 Vinay Kumar

Indian paceman Vinay Kumar leaps high to

Vinay Kumar is undoubtedly one of the most experienced players in the domestic circuit till date. From making his first-class debut for Karnataka in 2004, he still continues to be a vital cog for them and has clinched several trophies under his captaincy.

His consistent performances in the IPL and domestic circuit paved his way into the Indian team. But to his dismay, there has also been a complete turnaround in Vinay's career since 2013.

Half-way through 2013, he was dropped from the Indian team after a string of unimpressive performances and he warmed the benches in IPL for the most part of the season and was no longer considered by the selectors.

In this year's IPL too, he was heavily criticized by cricket fans after he failed to defend 16 runs in the final over against Chennai Super Kings. With age not on his side, his dream of playing the World Cup is as good as over.

#1 Varun Aaron

2nd Test - Australia v India: Day 3

Varun Aaron, the Indian speedster was one of India's best bowlers a few years back. The Jharkhand pacer can consistently bowl above 140 kph which only the best can do.

Despite possessing these wonderful abilities, he lost his way in the Indian team after falling prey to regular injuries.

The pacer has taken a total of 29 wickets from the 18 matches he has played for India at an economy of 5.69. He can steady the pace attack and slow down the momentum of the opposition and also prove to be a lethal wicket-taking bowler.

In spite of having an impressive county stint with Leicestershire, he was nowhere close in making it to the Indian squad for the Tour of England. This shows the massive decline of Aaron as a bowler.
