5 players who missed out on India's squad for the tri series against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh

The BCCI announced a 15 member squad for the Nidahas Tropy which takes place in Sri Lanka from March 6-18.

Virat Kohli has been rested for the tournament, which means that Rohit Sharma would take over as the captain of the side.

Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and MS Dhoni were rested as well, while youngsters such as Rishabh Pant, Deepak Hooda, and Washington Sundar have been included.

However, there were a few surprise exclusions from the squad.

Let's take a look at the 5 players who missed out on the squad for the Nidahas Trophy:

#5 Karun Nair

The Karnataka batsman made headlines after his sensational triple century against England in 2016. However, he lost his touch soon after that and was dropped from the side after a string of poor performances.

The Karnataka captain was back in form once the Ranji Trophy season began as he scored 612 runs in 11 innings at an average of 68 with three centuries and one half-century to his name.

He carried on his good run of form into the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy as well and has been playing been an integral role in Karnataka's success.

He will hope for the selectors to give him another chance in the side so that he can prove himself and cement his place.

#4 Shreyas Iyer

In a series where a lot of changes have been made and a lot of youngsters have been given a chance, Shreyas Iyer's exclusion came as a surprise to many.

He might not have made much of an impact in the ODI series against South Africa, but the Nidahas Trophy would have been a perfect opportunity for him to showcase his skills and make a big impact.

Unfortunately, he will now have to wait his turn and hope for the selectors to pick him in the side for the away tour to England, which takes place after the IPL.

#3 Sanju Samson

With MS Dhoni being rested, one would have thought that 23-year-old Sanju Samson would be given a chance to shine. However, the selectors decided to go with Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant instead.

Samson has consistently been performing well at the domestic level, in the Ranji Trophy and in the Indian Premier League as well.

However, he has just been given one chance with the national side in a T20I against Zimbabwe in 2015.

He was the top-scorer for Kerala in the Ranji Trophy with 677 runs to his name in 12 innings. He will hope for the selectors to give him a chance within the next few months.

#2 Basil Thampi

The 24-year-old from Kerala made his mark with a superb performance in the Indian Premier League for the Gujarat Lions in 2017, with 11 wickets to his name in 12 matches.

He was a part of Kerala's squad in the Ranji Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali as well. However, his performances were not up to the mark as he did not take too many wickets and gave away a lot of runs.

He was picked up by the Sunrisers Hyderabad for this year's IPL and will hope to make an impact with the ball.

#1 Mayank Agarwal

<p>

The 27-year-old from Karnataka has been in sensational form since the beginning of the Ranji Trophy. He has been scoring centuries for fun off late and has carried the Karnataka side on his shoulders. Across all formats, he has scored a combined tally of 2,051 runs this season.

He scored a staggering 1160 runs in 13 innings in the Ranji Trophy at an average of 105.45 with two half-centuries and five centuries to his name.

He carried on his brilliant run of form into the Vijay Hazare Trophy as well. He has scored 633 runs in seven innings so far at an average of 90 with three half-centuries and three centuries to his name.

With the way he is going at the moment, we can only wonder as to how much more will he have to do for the selectors to take notice.
