After a month of speculation, BCCI are now set to increase the benchmark for passing the YoYo test. While previously the players had to register 16.1 in the test, they will have to touch the 16.5 mark going forward. There are reports that the benchmark might be further increased to 17.0 as well in the near future.

A source revealed to Times of India last month, “There are discussions going on as to whether the benchmark could go a touch higher, say 16.5, to increase the fitness standards further. There has to be a progression in every aspect and fitness is no different. However, nothing has been finalised." And after discussions, the BCCI has now finally agreed on increasing the benchmark if the reports are to be believed.

Former head coach Anil Kumble had made passing the fitness test compulsory for selection in the Indian national team and since then quite a few players have even failed. This also means that players like Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina, who recently passed the test, might have to appear for it again with the revised benchmark.

Interestingly, India have one of the lowest benchmarks set for passing the YoYo test even after the revision in benchmark set. While Pakistan have set the minimum requirement at 17.5, West Indies have it set at 19, New Zealand at 20.1 and Australia at 21.

As far as the Indian team is concerned, Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya and captain Virat Kohli have the highest of YoYo scores. While Pandya has 19, Pandey has 19.2 and Kohli 21.

Moreover, veterans like Misbah Ul Haq and Ashish Nehra had decent scores in the endurance test as well. The former Pakistan captain had 18.4 while the recently retired former Indian bowler had 18.5.
