Dale Steyn suffers heel injury, out of India tour

Injuries seem to be following Dale Steyn like his own shadow. A day after making a successful (and long-awaited) comeback to the South African side, Steyn limped off the field having injured his heel during India's first innings of the ongoing Cape Town Test and was rushed to the hospital for a scan.

After the end of day's play, it was revealed that the pacer has a damaged tissue in his heel and won't bowl in the ongoing Test again. Additionally, he has also been ruled out of the entire series and sidelined for at least 4-6 weeks.

Steyn got injured while bowling his 18th over and was seen struggling with his boot and attending to his left heel. He left the field, with Vernon Philander finishing the over by bowling the three remaining deliveries.

Soon after, Tea was taken, but Steyn did not return after the break.

This is Steyn's first Test for South Africa since November 2016, having represented the side in the Perth Test against Australia. A shoulder injury, caused by a broken bone in his right shoulder, kept him away from the game for over a year.

Even before the first Test, SA's coach Ottis Gibson had been non-committal about Steyn's comeback, saying that he would not want to rush the 34-year-old back into the side, especially with this being their first match of the season.

Hardik Pandya's whirlwind 93 managed to take India past 200, but not before the Proteas wreaked havoc with a sustained bowling effort.

Steyn was in full flow during his second spell, snaring the wicket of Wriddhiman Saha by catching him leg before. With the wicket, he reached 419 Test wickets, just two wickets behind Shaun Pollock's record count of 421 career Test victims.
