Sachin Tendulkar is a name that is almost synonymous with the game of cricket itself. In an illustrious career spanning almost a quarter of a century, the master blaster enthralled and bewitched a nation of over a billion people.

No cricketer has been under more scrutiny as much as Tendulkar and no cricketer has faced as much pressure as Tendulkar did, in his unprecedented career.

He was the man who was instrumental in converting a sport into a religion in India and attained the status of a Demi-God. While the cliche “records are meant to be broken” is true to some extent, there are some records that will stand the test of time.

In this article, let us look at five records of Sachin Tendulkar that may never be broken in Tests.

#5 Most Number of Innings in Tests

In an illustrious career spanning over 24 years, Sachin Tendulkar played 329 innings for India in Test cricket.

In an illustrious career spanning over 24 years, Sachin Tendulkar played 329 innings for India in Test cricket. In fact, he is the only cricketer in the history of Test cricket to have played more than 300 innings.

The next man on the list, is the recently retired England’s batting powerhouse, Alastair Cook who strode out for his country 291 times in Tests.

Among active players, Hashim Amla has played 209 Test innings for South Africa. Given that he is already 35, there is no chance for Amla to come anywhere near Tendulkar’s record.

In all probability, this record of Tendulkar will stand the test of time.

#4 Most Runs in a single batting position

To put the magnitude of this record in some perspective, the number of runs that Tendulkar has scored at No.4 is higher than the career aggregate of the second highest run scorer in Test cricket - Ricky Ponting who scored 13378 Test runs in his entire career.

Among active players, Amla has represented his country 121 times, but since he is already 35, has virtually no chance of coming anywhere even close to Tendulkar’s record.

#1 Most Runs In Tests

In the 200 Test matches that Tendulkar played for India, he scored an astounding 15921 runs. He leads the second-placed Ricky Ponting by a colossal 2543 runs.

Among active players, Hashim Amla has scored 9119 runs, and he is already 35 years of age and he has almost zero chance of going past Tendulkar. The only man who had any realistic chance of going past Tendulkar was Alastair Cook, but even he retired last year from Tests.

And, as for batting sensation Virat Kohli, the current Indian Captain has scored only 6613 runs. Given that he is already over 30 years of age, it will be almost impossible for Kohli to score the 9309 runs that he requires to go past the Indian cricketing legend.
