Lynn has been a revelation for KKR in IPL 2017

IPL 2017 has been dominated by injury to star players and Chris Lynn became the latest to join that list as he injured his right shoulder in the game between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede stadium. Trying to take a catch, the 26-year-old Australian hurt his shoulder and was immediately taken off the field.

In the fourth over of Mumbai’s chase, Jos Buttler tried to clobber Chris Woakes over mid-off but he didn’t get all of it and it spooned up in the air and was heading towards the boundary. Chris Lynn, who was fielding at mid-off chased the ball right to the boundary and put in a big dive but he ended up injuring himself.

Lynn’s attempted dive not only resulted in him not catching the ball but also injuring himself. The ball just stopped a few inches short of the boundary and Yusuf Pathan sprinted towards it and threw it back as the batsmen ran just two. Whether they decided not to run because of the Australian’s injury or because they thought the ball reached the ropes wasn't clear but it was just two taken off the last ball of Woakes’ second over.

Even before Yusuf reached near the boundary, Lynn was already calling for help as he knew straight away that he had injured his left shoulder. Help arrived onto the pitch even before Yusuf made his way to where the Australian was and he was taken off the field immediately.

As soon as he went into the dressing room, Lynn's shoulder was strapped up with an ice pack and it is still unclear as to how long the big-hitting batsman will be out for.

The 26-year-old has been in great form for KKR in IPL 2017. After being promoted to the opener’s slot in their opening game against Gujarat Lions, Lynn scored a 41-ball 93, which included eight sixes and six fours. He put on an unbeaten 184-run partnership with captain Gautam Gambhir as KKR chased down the total with 31 balls to spare.

Against MI, before his injury, he scored a 24-ball 32 and has made the most of his promotion to the top of the order in IPL 2017. KKR will now have to rejig their line-up and find another formula that works.
