Shahzaib Hasan handed one-year ban for spot-fixing

Pakistan batsman Shahzaib Hasan, the latest to be indicted for his involvement in spot-fixing in the 2017 Pakistan Super League, has been handed a one-year ban along with a fine of INR 1 million. Hasan joins an infamous list containing five other players Nasir Jamshed, Sharjeel Khan, Mohammad Irfan, Mohammad Nawaz and Khalid Latif.

Shahzaib has been found guilty of breaching two counts of clause 2.4.4 of the anti-corruption code dealing with the failure to report an approach and also one count of clause 2.4.5.

PCB's legal adviser Tafazzul Rizvi said, "Another player has been banned following the PSL scandal. The young cricketers should learn lessons from this and stay away from any such activity. He has been found guilty in three out of four allegations and will face a year-long ban with a hefty fine. He cannot come on the field right away. He will have to go through the process and the first step of that process is acceptance of guilt. He will have to admit and regret what he has done and then only, after PCB's Anti-Corruption Unit is satisfied, he will be allowed to play."

The Pakistan Super League was rocked by a massive fixing scandal last year, with a number of high-profile players involved. While Irfan and Jamshed were banned for a year, Nawaz was handed a two-month ban for his involvement.

The PCB have adopted a no-tolerance policy towards fixing of any kind with all the teams in this year's edition being strictly monitored by anti-corruption officers.

Shahzaib was a part of Pakistan's T20 World Cup-winning team in 2009 and has featured in 10 T20Is and three ODIs for his country thus far.
