Kohli ended with 2818 runs in 2017

Having been allotted rest for the ODI and T20I series that follow the ongoing Tests, Virat Kohli's stint with the bat in 2017 has finally come to an end, but not before the Indian batsman smashed several long-standing records. A push for India's quick declaration was the foremost thing on his mind, as he ended the year just 50 runs shy of Kumar Sangakkara's all-time record for most international runs in a calendar year.

Here are all the important numbers from the fourth day of the Kotla Test:

1 - Kohli is the first Indian to score more than 600 runs in three separate Test series.

692 v Australia, 2014-15
655 v England, 2016-17
610 v Sri Lanka, 2017-18

Rahul Dravid and Sunil Gavaskar did so on two occasions.

2 - Virat Kohli is second on the list of batsmen who have 600+ runs in a Test series the most number of times:

6 - Donald Bradman
3 - Neil Harvey, Garry Sobers, Brian Lara, Virat Kohli

2 - Only two other batsmen have scored more runs in a Test series having batted five or fewer innings, apart from Kohli.

They are:

806 - Donald Bradman v South Africa in 1931-32 (5 Tests)
665 - Mohammad Yousuf v West Indies in 2006-07 (3 Tests)

3 - Virat Kohli is now third on the list of most runs by a batsman in a calendar year across all formats. Here's the complete list:

Kumar Sangakkara - 2868 (2014)
Ricky Ponting - 2833 (2005)
Virat Kohli - 2818 (2017)
Kane Williamson - 2692 (2015)
Angelo Mathews - 2687 (2014)
Ricky Ponting - 2657 (2003)

Virat Kohli - 2595 (2016)
Sourav Ganguly - 2580 (1999)

3 - Kohli is also third on the list of most runs in a Test series after beginning the series with a duck:

625 - Jacques Kallis v England, 2004-05 (10 inns)
615 - Michael Vaughan v India, 2002 (7 inns)
610 - Virat Kohli v Sri Lanka, 2017-18 (5 inns)

4 - The 610 runs scored by Kohli are the fourth most by a batsman in a three-Test series.

17 - The number of runs scored by Ajinkya Rahane in five innings of this series. It is the second lowest series tally for an Indian top-order batsman in a series (min. five innings) after Mohinder Amarnath's one run in six innings vs West Indies in 1983.

38 - On his 32nd birthday, Shikhar Dhawan became the 38th Indian batsman to complete 2000 runs in his Test career, hitting a six to reach the milestone. He also completed 8000 first-class runs in the proccess.
