In the last few years, there has been a rapid rise in the number of 300+ totals scored in ODI cricket. In order to cope with the changes in demands of ODI cricket, the batsmen have incorporated various strategies to score quickly.

The unconventional shots like the reverse sweep, scoop over the wicketkeeper are used by the batsmen these days to unsettle the bowler's length and score heftily. The modern day pitches also assist batsmen to score freely as they offer true bounce throughout the 50 overs. So let's take a look at the most destructive batsmen of this generation.

Note - The players who scored more than 2000 runs have been considered while preparing this slideshow. A player like Andre Russell, who has a strike-rate of 130.45 is not included in this list as he scored only 998 ODI runs till date.

#4 David Miller (Strike-rate - 101.29)

South Africa v India - 5th Momentum ODI
David Miller in action against India earlier this year

David Miller has the fourth best strike-rate among his contemporaries. The hard-hitting South African batsman has always been criticised for being inconsistent but the selectors continue to select him based on his match-winning capabilities.

He showed glimpses of his potential by scoring a blazing century 101* off just 38 balls while helping Kings XI Punjab team to chase down a target of 190 runs during the 2013 edition of IPL. This bought him into the limelight for the first time. But, ever since then he failed to replicate the same kind of form either for his nation nor for his Franchise team.

He finally got into the groove last year when he improved on his previous performance (2013 IPL century) and scored a record-breaking 35-ball century in a T20I against the Bangladesh team. He jointly holds the record for the fastest T20 International Hundred along with the talismanic Rohit Sharma.

He has since become an important member of South Africa's ODI line-up. The team management expects him to play the role of enforcer in the limited overs cricket. He has an overall strike-rate of 101.29 which backs his big hitting credentials.

#3 Jason Roy (Strike-rate - 104.35)

England v India - 3rd Vitality International T20
Modern English Batsmen

Jason Roy has been one of the destructive openers of this generation. He turned the fortunes and set England team on a new destructive path after the teams disastrous run 2015 World Cup which led to the resurgence of England's ODI team. He has been performing consistently at a higher strike-rate building the platform for the middle and lower order to cash-in and turn it into a substantial score.

He has scored 2422 runs in 65 ODI's at an average of 39.06 including six centuries and 12 fifties. He Played a stupendous knock of 180 ( his highest Individual score) at Melbourne against Aussies to help his team chase down a large target. He has an impressive career strike-rate of 104.35

#2 Jos Buttler (Strike Rate - 117.11)

England v India - 1st Vitality International T20
Best finisher in the world currently

Jos Buttler has been the linchpin of the England batting line-up for the last five years. He has been playing his role to perfection, a saviour whenever their top order has collapsed and also as an enforcer who maximises the total and finishes the innings on a high note.

He has been in ominous form this year since May. He was promoted to the opening slot by Rajasthan Royals team out of sheer desperation which turned out to be a masterstroke as he scored consecutive fifties and took the franchise into the play-offs.

His golden run with the bat in IPL helped him to resurrect his fading test career which got a new lease of life when he was selected to play number 7 position. He also has been in staggering form in ODIs this year. He has a highly impressive strike-rate of 117.11 from the 117 ODIs he played till now

#1 Glenn Maxwell (Strike-rate - 121.30)

England v Australia - 1st Royal London ODI
Glenn Maxwell has been an explosive middle-order batsman since his debut

Glenn Maxwell has not been a consistent performer for Australia over the years but has time and again proved his worth by playing some breathtaking cameos. He possesses a wide range of unconventional shots like the reverse sweeps in his repertoire which he executes with an utmost ease.

His capability to play a vast range of unorthodox shots allows him to score at a brisk pace even though he is not a powerful striker of a cricket ball like Russell or other power hitters of this generation.

In spite of having abundant talent, Maxwell has failed to cement his place in the Australian line-up owing to his lack of consistency. He has played 84 ODI's till date and scored 2181 runs at an average of 32.41 with an impressive strike-rate of 121.30 which is the highest right now among the players who scored more than 2000 ODI runs.
