Top 5 fast bowlers in World Cricket at the moment

New Zealand v England - 2nd Test: Day 3
Boult is one of the quickest bowlers ever

Cricket is a wonderful game. Time and again we have been shown this. People have made careers out of this wonderful sport, excelled for their countries and more importantly, earned respect. It's a game that we all love and enjoy. Today, in the 21st century, cricket has gone to a whole new level. It has become way more intense, interesting, fast-moving, and much more passionate.

Imagine being a cricketer yourself. Would you like it if the sport that you have dedicated your life to is being dubbed as a one-sided affair?

For far too long cricket has been dubbed as a batsman's game and it's wrong. Bowlers have their share too. In fact, the way a team bowls pretty much decides the result. Of course, batting can always pull it back. I'm not saying that cricket is a bowler's affair; it's a two-way affair and it deserves that recognition. We see people talking about batting and batsmen way too often. This overshadows the amazing amount of hard work that bowlers put in their strides.

We look at the best bowlers in world cricket currently, the ones who are capable of pulling the game away from the big-hitters at any moment.

#5 Trent Boult

The left-arm speedster from New Zealand is perhaps the quickest bowler after Mitchell Starc at the moment. He bowls at a speed of more than 145 kmph and swings the ball both ways. He has the capability to trouble even the best of oppositions, best of batsmen on the world's best batting track. He is a versatile bowler and adapts to the conditions very quickly.

Trent is economical at the death and his toe-crushing yorkers are more or less, unplayable. With the veteran Tim Southee in his side, Trent will only get better with time and age. He's very fit and is sure to continue for another 5-7 years.

Boult is one of the best fielders of the game and is very quick in the outfield. New Zealand is fortunate enough to have a quality bowler like Trent with them. He hasn't played much international cricket this year but he's still on the 6th and 2nd position in the ICC bowler rankings for Tests and ODIs, respectively.

#4 Mitchell Starc

Pakistan v Australia: 1st Test - Day One
The quickest Aussie bowler at the moment

Here's another left-arm quick. This time from Australia though. Starc stands at 6"6' and throws down the ball at a lethal pace. He bowls at speeds up to 150 kmph and breaches the 150 mark occasionally. He bowls at a consistent line and length which often troubles even the best of batters across the world.

Starc is very good at the death and his yorkers are more often than not spot-on. Mitch is a threat with the old ball as well. He possesses the ability to reverse swing the ball at a very good pace, getting those crucial middle-order wickets in important junctures of the game.

Even though Starc is very injury-prone, he's as good a bowler as one can get.

#3 Kagiso Rabada

1st Test: Sri Lanka and South Africa, Day 1
A perfect blend of aggression with pace

Rightfully termed as Dale Steyn's successor, Rabada is the best South African fast bowler at the moment. Rabada is as quick a bowler as can be and was a challenge to even Virat Kohli, the greatest batsman of the era. His bouncers are ripping and create music to the ears. He bowls at a deadly pace and he's a nightmare on bouncy tracks.

Rabada is one of the very few bowlers who can bowl very well at the death. He can swing the ball and he battles out fire with fire. His aggression is something that he can be proud of even though it has landed him into trouble quite a few times. He's still 23 and has a long way to go but Rabada is a very fit bowler and he's sure to become one of the very best in this game.

#2 Jasprit Bumrah

England v India: Specsavers 5th Test - Day One
Bumrah is an unorthodox, yet effective bowler

Hailed as the 'Yorker King' by many, Bumrah is as good a death bowler as one can get. Bumrah is good with the new ball as well and has been a revelation in Tests for India. Bumrah bowls at speeds of 140+ kmph and hits the deck hard. He angles the ball away from the left-handers very well.

Give him 6 to defend off the last over and he will take it to the last ball. That's the type of bowler he is. One can never count Bumrah out and he's already the number 1 ranked bowler in ODIs. Jasprit, at 24, still has a long way to go and most certainly he's one of the finest bowlers going around at the moment.

#1 Bhuvaneswar Kumar

1st Sunfoil Test: South Africa v India, Day Four
Leader of the Indian pace attack.

This is a no-brainer. Bhuvi is the best fast bowler at the moment and there's no stopping him. Some may say that the pace at which he bowls is not so threatening but the fact is that his line, length, and movement is the best in the world. Bhuvi is very economical at the death and is very accurate with his yorkers.

He rarely fails with the ball. Bhuvi is a good batsman too and a reliable number 8. He certainly can bat a bit with a proper batsman at the other end. He is a fantastic fielder who can cover large distances in no time. Bhuvi is a quality player and more importantly, an excellent bowler and the leader of the Indian pace attack.
