The 65th Senior National Kabaddi Championships for men and women kicked off at the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday after a glittering opening ceremony. The day featured a total of six matches - four men's and two women's and despite it being the first day of competition, there was a sizeable crowd that turned out to witness the action.

The matches were scheduled to start at 7 pm but a delay in the opening ceremony meant the matches started 90 minutes late. Also, all six games were one-sided affairs, with the winning teams racking up large margins of victory.

The men's section saw four clashes and in the Pool A encounter, Karnataka recorded a washout, defeating Vidarbha by an incredible 75-9 margin. The team, which features stars such as Sukesh Hegde and Jeeva Kumar, were in command throughout and their opponents could not even cross the double digits mark.

In the Pool B clash, Kerala recorded a comfortable 49-35 win, leading from the start. Even though Odisha fought back in the second half, it was too little too late as the team from South India picked up the winning points.

Gujarat were dominant in their display against Jammu and Kashmir in the Pool C clash. After an equal start, they broke away and recorded a straightforward 48-26 win as the J&K defence crumbled under pressure.

In Pool D, Andhra Pradesh picked up the win with an easy 50-18 scoreline. They led 30-9 at half-time, asserting their dominance and taking home the points.

In the women's sections, Tamil Nadu won 45-28, despite a spirited display from Manipur. Chhattisgarh won 61-12 in their Pool B clash, defeating Pondicherry.
