Well, then. Royal Challengers Bangalore take one crucial step in their hunt for the playoff spots and it was Virat Kohli who stood up tall to get the job done for his side. Now, all the team has to do is win their final game of the season against the defending champions to progress into the playoffs. It's going to be one enticing weekend coming up and it could be a rollercoaster of emotions as well, no matter which side you support.

Virat Kohli is the Player of the Match. Let's hear what he has to say: Quite special where we are in the points table. Hyderabad got a really good score and the ball was gripping in the middle as well. We got a great start, we wanted that but we didn't expect we'll get 172 together. Faf deserves credit for that too, he has been on a different level. I've had a few quiet games but I've been hitting it well in the nets. So, I've been searching for a way to channel that in the middle. Considering all factors, really happy it came along nicely. I was telling the boys, the way I'm looked at as an IPL is different, even when I've played some impactful knocks. I don't give myself credit for that sometimes. I don't care what anyone says on the outside. That's their opinion. When you're in the position, you know what to do in the run chase. I've never been a guy who plays too many fancy shots. We've got Test cricket after the IPL. So, I have to stay true to the way I play the game. When I play well in such games, it gives me confidence. [Faf du Plessis] We almost have 900 runs together. It's quite similar to how I felt with AB. We pump each other up, and he has experience at the international level. He's made such an impact here and it's very important for us. [Crowd support] I feel blessed and grateful. I felt like it was a home game for us. They were cheering for us. So, I feel like you cannot create this. I haven't forced anyone to follow me. I do everything on the field honestly and they're happy to watch me. I love to see when they have a smile on their face and I am very thankful to the crowd for their support.

Faf du Plessis: Amazing chase, isn't it? We did feel like it was a very good wicket and 200 was a par score. Klaasen obviously played unbelievably but there wasn't a lot of balls that swung. So, we wanted to come out and play positively. We've been doing the right things. We've been clinical with the bat and ball in the last two games. We complement each other really well. We obviously play in very different areas, and there's good chemistry between the two of us. It's just about sticking to the momentum. It felt like we had the right resources to deal with the conditions and we're looking forward to go back to the Chinnaswamy where there will be a lot of support for us in a must-win game.

Glenn Maxwell: It's been a long time on the road for us, we knew it was going to be at the back end of the tournament, we just had to be in a position from where we still at striking distance, couple of tough games but we're peaking at the right time from the last two games. It was sensational, some of the shots he played in the powerplay of the backfoot showed how good a form he is in and our bowlers struggled to find the right lengths and even the pacers, slightly short he punished, hats off to that good knock. Siraj did well, Parnell too, for those to do the job, we were one seamer short and it didn't spun much at the start than it did later on. When those guys were chasing, they know exactly what to do and they are such good players, they adapt to the conditions, they made sure they got through the tough period and cashed in when they got a bit of pace on the ball. It's going to be nice to go back to home games, it was electric at the top and it's a great chance to take on the table toppers at home.

Aiden Markram (Sunrisers Hyderabad captain): I thought we batted pretty well, didn't maximize as much as we wanted to, you can always find a few runs out there, left a few out in the powerplay. Klaasi played unbelievable know out there, great knock from him and good contributions from Brooky, it was still a good score. It was awesome with the crowd that they turned, it's a full house and it's truly special and great fans throughout the tournament, we'd like to thank them for coming out in numbers. At the end of it, we're still sportsman, we hate to lose and we will look to win, look to finish the tournament to finish with a smile, it's another opportunity. Just couldn't get over the line tonight, we hung there but Virat and Faf killed the game early. We had a look at some guy, probably one less option in the powerplay but their first game and they were up against Virat and Faf, they were up put under pressure. It was special, super happy for Klaasi, don't think he ever would've dreamed scoring a IPL hundred but certainly happy for him.

It was evident that this would be Virat’s day from the very first ball when he played that cover drive.

Virat and Faf both looked in total control, they not only played many big shots but also ran rather well between the wickets to build a successful partnership.

Royal Challengers Bangalore bag two crucial points to keep not only keep their campaign alive but to put themselves in the driver's seat in the race for the playoff spots. It was a comprehensive win for them in the end with the batters doing the job for them once again. After Heinrich Klaasen's century helped SRH post 186 on the board, it felt like it could have been a tricky chase for Bangalore. Good thing for them that they had the chase master on their side then.

Virat Kohli hit his stride from ball one, starting off with back-to-back boundaries to set the tone in the innings before Faf du Plessis did the same. They motored along in the powerplay and simply didn't give the bowlers too many chances. Speaking of which, there was a chance early on with Phillips dropping du Plessis early on and then the RCB captain getting a lifeline after a no-ball as well.

The captain made them pay as he cruised to his half-century with his partner following soon after. Kohli then took matters into his own hands again, batting positively throughout the middle overs before switching gears at the backend of the innings in a typical manner. He cruised along to his 6th century in the IPL, now joint-top with his former teammate, Chris Gayle.

Kohli and du Plessis couldn't quite finish things off though with SRH getting a couple of wickets at the backend. It was too little too late though, because RCB needed only around a run-a-ball by then and Maxwell and Bracewell made sure they got their side over the line without a fuss. So, it's RCB who keep the hunt for their maiden title alive with this win but there's still a bit to be done before they start dreaming of the playoffs.
