3 Huge Surprises That Could Still Be Announced For SmackDown 1000

SmackDown 1000 looks to be shaping up nicely!
SmackDown 1000 looks to be shaping up nicely!

Well, with SmackDown 1000 only one week away, the episode is shaping up to be nothing short of monumental!

After seeing what WWE pulled off with the Raw 25 celebrations earlier this year, the bar had been set very high for SmackDown's millennial celebration.

With Rey Mysterio set to take on Shinsuke Nakamura, Batista returning as Evolution are set to reunite on the show, Edge scheduled to appear and Undertaker booked too, you could argue that it really couldn't get much bigger better.

SmackDown, though has been on a 19-year rollercoaster, from being pre-recorded and living in the shadows of Raw to then going live - and even bagging a move to FOX next year set to make it WWE's flagship show broadcasting on a Friday night.

While SmackDown 1000 will be a celebration of the history of the show, you've got to think that WWE will know the eyes of the world, and their new broadcasters, will be on the product - so it has to be larger than life.

So, will the surprises keep coming? If so, here are three big ones that could make SmackDown Live that little bit bigger...

#3 A nostalgic set up

Will we see the legendary fist return?
Will we see the legendary fist return?

Well, with WWE's recently cull on different sets and pyro outwith WrestleMania, this might be a long shot - but if we learned one thing from RAW 25, it's that WWE does love going all out for monumental shows.

RAW 25 did emanate from two different venues, which is unique in its own right, but we did see a unique, retro set in the Manhattan Center,.

The "fist" stage set may be one of the most iconic SmackDown sets of all time, outwith potentially the parallel oval set, and it really would make the whole night so much more special.

I'm sure we'll see it in video packages looking back at the past two decades on milestone episode, but to see it physically represented during the show would be incredible and could just set the tone perfectly.

#2 Some familiar voices on commentary

Could Tazz return for one night only?
Could Tazz return for one night only?

This is another lesson WWE could take from their own previous experience at RAW 25. Having Jim Ross and Jerry "The King" Lawler voice over a segment of the show was a wonderful touch, and Michael Cole and Tazz are undoubtedly a huge part of the history of WWE SmackDown.

Michael Cole is already on Raw and there's no doubting his commitment to WWE, so he shouldn't be too tough of a "get" for WWE, but Tazz might be a bit tougher to convince.

Now known under his old ECW moniker of Taz, the Human Suplex Machine has transitioned to a Human Podcast Machine and now Human Broadcast Machine while doing a daily morning drivetime sports show for CBS called Taz and The Moose, as well as his very own The Taz Show where the ECW legend covers all things wrestling.

Tazz was in the building for SmackDown 900, filimg a WWE Network special on ECW that night but said he wasn't asked to do commentary for a match. However, the former WWE man said he would have been open to the idea of calling one match to add to the nostalgia.

If WWE reaches out, this really could add something special to the atmosphere of the night - even if it was just a fleeting appearance.

#1 The Rock checks in to the SmackDown Hotel

Will The Rock check in to the SmackDown Hotel?
Will The Rock check in to the SmackDown Hotel?

Well, he's arguably the reason SmackDown is what it is today.

The People's Champion was the very first face to appear on the program’s very first episode on Aug. 26, 1999, in Kansas City, making it clear in the opening segment that SmackDown was his show - and The Rock may still be the most famous name ever to grace the brand.

From his WWE Championship Match against Triple H on the first ever episode to his monumental return in 2013, the eyebrow-raising legend electrified Thursday and Friday nights.

While SmackDown has come a long way since The Rock last appeared on the show, if one star should return at the show, you'd have to think it should be The Great One.

Batista, Rey Mysterio and Edge are all massive names in their own right, but a surprise appearance or a late announcement to confirm The Rock would bring the eyes of the world to this monumental show and, with Fox officials watching on, you can bet it wouldn't hurt if WWE could bring in the world's biggest star right now for an appearance at SmackDown 1000.
