Last week, Brock Lesnar became the first man to regain the WWE Universal Championship after having lost the title. Bear in mind that this is no mean feat since no Universal Champion in the title's history had been able to regain the title once they'd lost it.
Lesnar made history at Crown Jewel this past November 2nd when he defeated Braun Strowman for the vacant WWE Universal Championship, albeit in a match that was marred by the Acting General Manager of RAW Baron Corbin attacking Strowman right before the matchup got underway, thereby helping Lesnar win the title.
Make no mistake about it, despite being blessed with a stacked roster in 2018, the WWE is currently going through a challenging phase, since one of its biggest stars - Roman Reigns, had to step away from in-ring competition due to the unfortunate return of his leukemia. While that is obviously a big reason behind Lesnar once again winning the Universal Title, the WWE would be making a monumental mistake if they don't take the title off The Beast as soon as possible.
Having Lesnar as the RAW brand's top champion is a huge error, and today we examine the facts that solidify this belief. Let's take a closer look at the alarming reasons why WWE needs to get the Universal Title off Brock Lesnar!
#5 Brock Lesnar continues being non-committal to the WWE
Having first rose to prominence due to his time in the WWE back in the early-2000s, Brock Lesnar eventually tried his luck at professional football and then pro MMA (Mixed Martial Arts). While his football career didn't work out the way he'd hoped, Lesnar went on to achieve a tremendous amount of success in MMA -- winning and defending the UFC Heavyweight Championship.
However, The Beast's subsequent battles with diverticulitis as well as a couple of brutal losses to Cain Velasquez and Alastair Overeem, resulted in Lesnar returning to the WWE in 2012 and working as a part-time WWE Superstar ever since.
Since then, Lesnar has competed in MMA once, at UFC 200 back in 2016, while still under WWE contract. Besides, Lesnar is also rumored to be fighting for the UFC Heavyweight Championship in March of next year.
Considering how Lesnar has a lot on his plate, it's no surprise that he continues to be non-committal towards the WWE, and only appears occasionally on RAW and a select few PPV events...
#4 The fans don't want another long, boring, part-time title reign
Brock Lesnar won the WWE Universal Championship for the very first time at WrestleMania 33 on April 2nd last year, when he defeated Goldberg for the coveted title on The Grandest Stage Of Them All. The Beast Incarnate would go on to hold RAW's top prize for about 504 days, until he finally lost the title to Roman Reigns at SummerSlam 2018 on August 19th this year.
Now, while Lesnar is undoubtedly a box office draw -- per the excellent PPV and ticket sales he rakes in for both the WWE and UFC -- I'd be lying if I said that his reign as Universal Champion was great. It's an undisputed fact that we -- the fans -- the WWE Universe -- do not want another long, boring, part-time title reign where the Universal Championship is essentially absent from RAW for the majority of the year!
Well, we all know that the Universal title would be an absent entity, except a few PPVs and RAW episodes here and there, if Lesnar holds the title.
#3 WWE already has Superstars like Braun Strowman and Drew McIntyre
Alright, frankly speaking, the majority of Brock Lesnar's appeal comes due to his great success in the UFC and his larger than life stature. Well, although the WWE has no shortage of big guys, a big guy with charisma and personality has always been hard to find.
However, the current RAW roster consists of not one, but two big guys with both charisma and personality -- Braun Strowman and Drew McIntyre. Furthermore, both The Monster Among Men and The Scottish Psychopath are incredibly over with the WWE Universe today!
I'd also like to add that unlike Brock Lesnar, who is a part-time WWE Superstar, both Strowman and McIntyre perform for WWE on a full-time basis. Currently, Strowman is 35, whereas McIntyre is 33 years of age - and if the WWE doesn't put the title on them now, they may never be able to capitalize on the current buzz that these two gentlemen have been generating as of late.
#2 Absence of the Universal Title again, could badly hurt the WWE
As I'd mentioned earlier, the fans do not want to see another long title reign with an absentee champion on RAW. Now, let's take a look at the bigger picture.
Roman Reigns' leukemia diagnosis and subsequent departure from Monday Night RAW resulted in several major changes in the WWE's ongoing storylines - with one of said changes being that The Shield is no more a unit on RAW. Honestly speaking, The Shield was indeed one of the biggest attractions on RAW in recent times, and with the group now having broken up, and Seth Rollins feuding with Dean Ambrose, chaos reigns on the WWE's Monday night flagship show.
In addition to all the aforementioned chaos, if the WWE Universal Title once again turns into a part-time attraction courtesy Brock Lesnar, then that, in turn, would be another huge blow for the RAW brand as well as for WWE as a whole.
#1 Risk of a one-sided beat-down at UFC 235
In case you aren't an MMA fan, this one may catch you by surprise, albeit to a certain extent. But the fact of the matter is that Brock Lesnar is likely to face Daniel Cormier for the latter's UFC Heavyweight Championship, at UFC 235 which takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 2nd, 2019.
A widely respected former Olympian, Cormier is regarded as one of the greatest wrestlers to have ever competed in the sport of MMA. Additionally, "DC" is one of the rare grappling-specialists who has also developed excellent striking skills by MMA standards.
Speaking from a pure combat sports perspective -- although anything can happen in a fight -- Lesnar isn't likely to out-grapple Cormier. And if this fight stays on the feet, both fans and experts unanimously believe that DC will light up Lesnar like a Christmas tree!
Now, if Lesnar heads into UFC 235 whilst still holding the WWE Universal Championship, and then proceeds to get out-classed and violently finished by DC in the UFC's famed Octagon; that wouldn't exactly be a good look for the WWE.
The WWE could very well put its Universal Title on someone more committed to the company such as Braun Strowman and Drew McIntyre, so as to ensure that even if Lesnar loses at UFC 235, the sanctity of the WWE Universal Championship is safeguarded.
