5 Indications That Dean Ambrose Could Still Turn Heel

The ongoing story may be far from over, even now!
The ongoing story may be far from over, even now!

Dean Ambrose seemed flustered and agitated throughout the course of this week's RAW episode. There were misunderstandings with Seth Rollins and Ambrose even got into a shoving contest with The Kingslayer. However, as they say, all's well that ends well. The evening ended with The Shield standing tall, proud and triumphant.

However, I do have a feeling that Ambrose could still turn in the coming weeks. And in this article, I shall name 5 reasons why this could potentially be the case. Feel free to chime in with your thoughts and comments in the comments section below.

Is a heel turn from Ambrose something you would personally like to see? Is it time for The Shield to break up again?

Is the happy fairytale ending from this week's episode not meant to last?

#5 He still doesn't have a title

The primary bone of contention for Dean Ambrose being upset with his brothers is that he doesn't have a title. And this is still the case, even though the group seems to be on the very same page. The Hounds of Justice own the two top titles on RAW right now. Unfortunately, Ambrose does not have a singles title.

All that he needs to do to be in the running for a Championship is to turn on his brethren. And the fact of the matter is that he's a qualified singles superstar, who's playing second fiddle to his superstar friends. He was the top dog on SmackDown Live, immediately after the most recent brand split.

This could potentially be the fuel that ignites the fire for Dean Ambrose's eventual heel turn, where he turns on his brothers. And this could yield big dividends for the Lunatic Fringe.

#4 He doesn't even have a Crown Jewel match

Both of the other Shield members are in high profile matches at the event

One expects Crown Jewel to be the primary focus of RAW in coming weeks. The most surprising aspect of the event is how both Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins feature in big matches at the event, but Dean Ambrose doesn't. He doesn't have a single match at what should be one of WWE's biggest pay-per-views of the year. And this makes me wonder.

Dean Ambrose is one of the biggest stars on RAW, when all is said and done. For him to be sitting on the sidelines makes no sense. The only reason this could be happening is because it makes sense from a storyline perspective.

The fact that Rollins is competing in the tournament means that the Intercontinental Championship may not even be defended at Crown Jewel. This could cause further discord between the two highly competitive athletes.

#3 The Shield has no viable opponents

Strowman's team dissipated and now The Shield has no realistic challengers anymore

Braun Strowman, Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre had formed a makeshift team to be viable and realistic challengers for The Shield. You cannot have any three men from the roster take the Hounds of Justice on. They are all top guys, much in the sense that The Four Horsemen or nWo were. The challengers have to seem threatening.

Except now, the heels have problems of their own, following the events on RAW this week. It does seem like both Braun Strowman and Drew McIntyre will be waging their own war, leading into the big Crown Jewel event. And this means that there are no viable opponents for The Shield currently.

What's the point of a group without any real challengers? I think WWE may be setting the stage for an Ambrose heel turn.

It would make all the sense in the world, considering the current scenario.

#2 He hasn't had a real heel run yet

Ambrose honestly hasn't had a real opportunity to showcase his personality
Ambrose honestly hasn't had a real opportunity to showcase his personality

They call Dean Ambrose the lunatic fringe. However, he's been anything but a lunatic these past few weeks, and may even be a little sensitive on that front. This week, when he was told that he was on 'lunatic time', Ambrose stormed off in a huff, realizing that his friends saw him as a joke and little more.

The only way for Ambrose to showcase the lunatic side of his character would be to go heel. He's not had a chance to go heel since he first made his debut as a Shield member. Seth Rollins had a great heel run, when Ambrose played the top babyface.

Could Ambrose change his fortunes by going heel and potentially become the top guy once again? I can certainly see this to be the case, going forward.

#1 Declining ratings

Nothing spells ratings like a heel turn does

The Shield has been the primary focus of RAW programming over the past few weeks and the viewership has been dismal. This cannot be attributed only to The Shield, but also to the stiff competition that they've been facing. However, it still stands to reason that The Shield is not the draw that WWE assumed they were. Therefore, splitting up The Shield may actually generate more interest in the product.

And if The Shield does split up, who better to turn on his brothers than the Lunatic Fringe? He's the guy who needs it the most, and is the man with the most logical reason to potentially do so. If I was a casual viewer, I'd be interested to watch the product once again.

Remember how the 'Red Wedding' in Game of Thrones got everyone excited about the show again, after a few weaker episodes? This could potentially be a very similar moment.
