5 Opponents Who Can Match Up With Ronda Rousey

When Ronda Rousey destroyed Alexa Bliss within five minutes at this year’s Summerslam a lot of things went through my wrestling mind. The most common thought I had was a very simple “Now what?”.

I mean the rise to the top of the Raw Women’s Division was pretty easy for Ronda. She has had a grand total of four televised matches in the WWE. But within four months of her debut, she has already won the biggest title she can possibly get in the Women’s Division with her Raw Women’s Championship. If she can destroy the five-time Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss so easily and quickly, what still remains for Ronda to do in the WWE?

I think that Ronda clearly deserves some better opponents. In creating this list, I didn’t really pay too much attention in building my list to the respective brand of the potential opponent. I mean we have major upcoming events in “Evolution”, “Survivor Series” and “Royal Rumble”, that could certainly switch the deck of superstars. Since a Ronda match will be near the main event at every single show, she will need to be against a quality and credible opponent.

With all this in my mind, I present my list of the top five opponents who can match up with Ronda Rousey:

#5 Nia Jax

What has happened to Nia Jax? I mean she seems to have just vanished after losing her mandatory rematch with Alexa Bliss at Extreme Rules. However, she does have some unfinished business with Ronda Rousey.

Ronda has had only three singles matches on WWE television. The best one is clearly her encounter with Nia Jax at Money in the Bank. The mix of Nia’s size and strength with Ronda’s unique skill set led to a very fun match. It was a good match that didn’t have a clean ending and that could easily lead to a well-deserved rematch for both superstars.

#4 Becky Lynch

Becky will have a lot to complain about.

Give Becky a chance.

As Becky Lynch undergoes a terribly timed heel turn, it does allow her more time in the limelight. She is able to, rightfully, complain about her lack of opportunities and success against the other females in the WWE. Enter Ronda Rousey.

If Becky had some things to complain about with Charlotte, imagine what she could say about the quick ascent to the top by Ronda Rousey. Becky Lynch is one of the better wrestlers in the company and a solid talker. That seems the recipe for a solid feud with the “Rowdy” one.

#3 Asuka

Remember when Asuka was perceived as a legitimate threat? I know it is quite shocking to think about how far she has fallen. But two losses thanks to James Ellsworth’s interference later and Asuka is nowhere to be seen on the main roster on a weekly basis. That is a real shame.

A feud with Ronda Rousey would be a good way to get Asuka back to being a real threat again on the women’s roster. The kicks between the two would be a clinic of true wrestling skill. Asuka is one of the best wrestlers on the roster and Ronda needs a competitor to step up her game to the next level. An NXT-style Asuka would be a good opponent.

#2 Shayna Baszler

This feud has to happen right?

Shayna Baszler and Ronda Rousey are part of the “Four Horsewomen” of MMA. They both have legit fighting backgrounds. The friendships of these two could led to some good heat for a potential feud. Baszler is really good at playing the cocky heel. It would make logical storyline since she could be jealous of the attention her MMA friend Ronda is getting on the main roster.

The match would be great as well. Their styles are quite similar. They could put on a good wrestling clinic with the submission holds alone. She is the perfect opponent for Rousey and a great way to get Baszler on the main roster.

#1 Charlotte Flair

This has to be the top choice. Ever since Ronda joined the main roster, the women’s match that most people have wanted to see was a dream match with Charlotte Flair. Charlotte is already one of the most decorated Women’s Champions in WWE History. She is clearly becoming the most known as she is being pushed into mainstream media. She went to the fall television upfront presentations and appeared in the ESPN Body Issue. It is clear the WWE wants us to know Ric Flair’s daughter as one of the major faces of the WWE for years to come.

She is also one of the most talented in-ring as well. She is able to do things in the ring the rest of the roster simply cannot do. It is the sort of match that Ronda needs to reach the top.

This sort of feud has WrestleMania written all over it. One of the two could win the Women’s Royal Rumble in 2019. They then could choose the option of picking the champion of the other brand. It is the sort of Women’s match that could logically main event at WrestleMania 35. It is the best opponent to match up with Ronda and the one that most people want to see.
