5 Reasons WWE wants Brock Lesnar to defeat Braun Strowman at the Royal Rumble

Who wins?
Who wins?

Brock Lesnar versus Braun Strowman. Who wins?

While the answer to that question might have been easy to answer a month or so ago, it's becoming harder and harder thanks to a plethora of new information.

Unfortunately, for Braun Strowman, who was seemingly WWE's next top guy at one point, it's starting to look more and more like he will come up short yet again at The Royal Rumble.

Interestingly enough, WWE seems to also be regaining faith in Brock Lesnar as their top star, which is another reason it's looking like he will retain the title at WrestleMania 35.

Whether he actually does or not remains to be seen and will depend on what is discussed, but there are certain positives that go into Lesnar holding onto the title.

With that being said and The Royal Rumble pay-per-view only a few short weeks away, here are five reasons why WWE will have Brock Lesnar retain The Universal title at The Royal Rumble.

Of course, most of these reasons have to do with Braun Strowman and the rumours surrounding him, but there will be reasons that focus on Lesnar as well.

What are your thoughts? Do you think Braun Strowman will win The Universal Title from Brock Lesnar at The Royal Rumble or will WWE put all of their money on The Beast, Brock Lesnar, at WrestleMania 35? Let us know in the comments below and also let us know who you want to win The Universal title at WrestleMania 35

#5 Braun Strowman's injuries

Is The Monster far too injury prone to be Universal Champion?

Rumours have been circulating that Braun Strowman still isn't 100% ready to return to the ring and while it's believed that he will be ready by The Royal Rumble, his injuries are really starting to hold him back. Unfortunately for Strowman, this could mean that the company ends up giving up on him as their top guy.

Furthermore, one has to wonder if Strowman will be ready to go by the time The Royal Rumble comes around and how limited he will be if he is able to compete. With that being said and Strowman likely being limited in the upcoming title match, one has to wonder if WWE can even find a way for him to believably beat Lesnar for the title.

#4 Backstage heat

Not everyone is happy with The Monster right now!

Another rumor that has been making the rounds on the internet is that WWE is seemingly giving up on Braun Strowman due to some kind of backstage behavioural problems. While no source has really elaborated on what exactly that meant or even what, there are claims that he has done minor things that have rubbed officials the wrong way.

According to Mike Johnson from PWinsider “One of the things that I heard from multiple people – we’re talking 4 different people. There are times where Strowman is negligent when it comes to showing up on time... He has a reputation at times for leaving a little early and sometimes he makes mistakes in terms of etiquette in the backstage in the locker room. Sometimes, as one person put it, he’s his own worst enemy and his worst advocate. They would be high on him and just when he gets to the point where you would think the next step is putting him into the centerpiece position for the company [then] something happens and he makes some sort of misstep backstage and people within management kind of cool on him and they take a step back.”

Of course, this is probably the smallest offense on this entire list, but its no secret that WWE isn't going to push a guy they don't like. Furthermore, they aren't going to have someone in the company's biggest prize if he keeps having problems. Unfortunately for Strowman, he has apparently had a string of them throughout his career.

In the end, maybe WWE pulls off the surprise of the century and has Strowman actually become Champion at The Royal Rumble. Then again, WWE has a history of not pushing superstars with problems backstage, which could be a pretty good indicator that the company will keep the title on Lesnar come the Royal Rumble.

#3 Strowman's promo skills

Strowman's Beastie Boy comment to Brock Lesnar was beyond cringe

It's no secret that promos are a part of telling a story and while Braun Strowman used to be magnificent on the microphone in small doses, he has started to stumble a bit as the company focuses more attention onto him. Beyond that, the new catchphrases they are trying to stick him with are pretty hit and miss at best and cringe-worthy at worst.

Not only was that evident by his "beastie boy," comment during The first Raw of 2019, but also by the catchphrases the company keeps loading him up with. If nothing else, the company needs to either get someone better to write for Strowman or eliminate him from the title picture completely, which they seem to be hinting towards.

In the end, WWE can't tell a good story with someone as unnatural on the microphone as Strowman is at times and that's just another reason why Lesnar will ultimately retain his title at The Royal Rumble.

Of course, things can always change and WWE could make progress on his microphone skills during that time, but there's not a lot of time left for that to happen.

#2 Loss would hurt Lesnar

Can Brock Lesnar afford to take a loss at The Royal Rumble?
Can Brock Lesnar afford to take a loss at The Royal Rumble?

Let's be honest here.

While Braun Strowman winning The Universal title would be a great surprise for fans and a fun way to kick off the road to WrestleMania 35, its also something WWE might not be willing to do at this point. In fact, with the things that are listed above, it feels very unlikely that WWE has any confidence in Braun Strowman at this point in time.

With that in mind and Brock Lesnar's UFC match with Daniel Cormier still a possibility, it would be ridiculous for Lesnar to take a loss at The Royal Rumble. Furthermore, Lesnar doesn't take a clean lose very often in The WWE and it's pretty obvious that WWE isn't going to waste one on a superstar they aren't exactly high on.

Of course, WWE could change their minds and go with Braun Strowman as The Universal champion, but that means two things must have happened. The first is that Lesnar agreed to lose to Strowman, which seems highly unlikely. The second thing would be WWE suddenly regaining faith in Strowman as a top guy, which also seems unlikely.

#1 Lesnar is a bigger draw heading into WrestleMania 35

Admit it. Brock Lesnar makes a much better champion heading into WrestleMania 35!
Admit it. Brock Lesnar makes a much better champion heading into WrestleMania 35!

As much as Braun Strowman winning The Universal championship at The Royal Rumble would be a positive shift forward for WWE, it might come at the expense of both Strowman's career and WrestleMania 35 itself!! Beyond that, it could ultimately leave WWE without a major box office draw in the title picture, which could also be a problem

Now, this doesn't mean there wouldn't be benefits to Braun Strowman winning The Universal title at The Royal Rumble, which includes shaking up the title picture and crowning a first-time champion, but the negatives still outweigh all of that.

It also doesn't seem like WWE is willing to back Strowman in such a high profile role, which is another reason why it just won't happen.

In the end, WWE has made a lot of crazy decisions over the course of their existence, but putting the title on Braun Strowman might be the most bizarre of them all. It also wouldn't be a good look for Lesnar either and might really work to devalue his stock in the company.
