Some champions need to leave the show retaining their championships

WWE knew that they only needed one thing to ensure the show they were producing in Saudi Arabia would be a success and that was the Royal Rumble match. The drawing power of the Royal Rumble match is hugely influential, but Vince McMahon and Co set out to outdo themselves in every aspect by booking marquee match after marquee match.

The Greatest Royal Rumble event has a solid card that consists of multiple championship matches. While some title matches have higher stakes than others, there is no denying that WWE might get carried away when booking this event, as multiple title changes would happen to send fans home happy.

However, multiple title changes would end hot championship runs before they can begin and a champion being dethroned might detour that wrestler's career. Therefore, specific champions who walk into the event with their titles should walk out with it.

#1 Seth Rollins

Rollins can create magic as the IC Champion.

Seth Rollins walked into WrestleMania lacking one title from his career resume, and he walked out of the pay-per-view being able to call himself a grand slam champion. As Raw has received underused midcard talent from the blue brand, there is no other superstar other than Rollins that is hot enough right now to carry the title.

Being a skilled in-ring technician and having a more developed personality than most of WWE's wrestlers, the IC Title can continue its resurgence under Rollins. Also, it would not be wise on WWE's part to switch title holders at this moment as it will diminish the credibility the title has gained over the last few years.

Moreover, Rollins could go on to have awesome matches with the likes of Bobby Roode, Bobby Lashley and a returning Dean Ambrose, which will elevate the title, every competitor and the red brand.

#2 Cedric Alexander

The cruiserweight division needs a strong champion and that is Cedric Alexander.

Cedric Alexander walked a long road to reach the pinnacle of the cruiserweight division. Ever since 2016, the WWE Universe has waited to witness the former ROH megastar carry a title that would’ve benefitted from being associated with a skillful wrestler such as himself, and at WrestleMania, WWE finally crowned Cedric as the new Cruiserweight Champion.

Now that Alexander is going to face Kalisto at the Greatest Royal Rumble, WWE cant have Alexander drop the title to Kalisto just for the cheapness of 'shock value.' Moreover, while it seems unlikely that Kalisto would ever get a second run with the Cruiserweight Title, WWE has been known for their unpredictable booking in 2018.

Therefore, Cedric needs to make a successful title defense and prove he is the right star to lead the division forward, as opponents such as TJP, Hideo Itami and Buddy Murphy can all challenge the heart of 205 Live.

#3 Jeff Hardy

Smackdown Live is the perfect place for the US Title to succeed.

When Jeff Hardy pinned Jinder Mahal for the United States Title, many were elated that Hardy is now carrying a title that would’ve been underutilized if Mahal had retained. Ever since taking the title to Smackdown Live, WWE has set up intriguing feuds for Hardy with the likes of Randy Orton and Shelton Benjamin.

Therefore, WWE cant book Hardy to drop the belt at the Greatest Royal Rumble event, as it will be a cheap way to get heel heat on Mahal and it would be baffling as to why WWE made Mahal drop the title in the first place.

Smackdown Live’s roster is the perfect place to elevate this midcard title, as the likes of Andrade “Cien” Almas, Samoa Joe and Eric Young all have tremendous abilities to put on 5-star classics with Jeff Hardy.

#4 The Bludgeon Brothers

Dream matches await these brutes.

While Rowan and Harper's gimmick may seem a bit campy, there is nothing campy about these two brutes when they step into the ring. The former members of The Wyatt Family have proven themselves as a unified tag team that is capable of delivering standout performances as Smackdown Live Tag Team Champions.

Therefore, having these hammer-wielding monsters lose to The Usos in a programme that has had a lackluster build would be a mistake on WWE's part. As matches with Sanity, The Bar, and The Club can all be integral programmes that can enhance Smackdown Live’s tag team division going forward.

#5 AJ Styles

AJ Styles needs to retain his title.

Shinsuke Nakamura is an awesome heel in WWE's generic pool of heroes and villains. Instead of WWE commonly taking everything fans loved about “the king of strong style” and turning it into heel material, they chose to let Nakamura be more of himself.

Therefore, some could argue that Nakamura is more engaging, charismatic and entertaining than AJ Styles at the moment. However, while that might be the case, WWE cant pull the trigger on a WWE Title reign for Nakamura now, as they need to build his heel run more and more until it finally peaks.

Therefore, while WWE is creating the perfect heel in Nakamura, AJ Styles is still the best champion in WWE today and needs to carry the belt for a long time before he drops it.
