5 superstars who need a face or heel turn

In professional wrestling, as we all know, you’ve got the babyfaces and you’ve got the heels. While there can sometimes be tweeners thrown in there every now and again, you often need a clear line in the sand between the two in order to really establish the characters involved in the weekly storylines.

Unfortunately for us, WWE seems to take their time when it comes to reverting a superstar back to the alignment that suits them best. Sometimes the journey that it takes them to get there makes the whole process more than worth it, but we’re a little tired of seeing the following five guys not being used to their full potential.

They’re still great performers, obviously, but there just seems to be something missing – and we feel as if a turn to either the light or dark side will allow them to reach that next level.

With that being said, here are our five superstars who need a face or heel turn.

#5 Apollo Crews

A fully heel Apollo could work wonders for his momentum

There was a great deal of excitement in the air when Apollo Crews’ jump to WWE was confirmed a few years back, with many pointing towards his freakish athleticism when he was competing on the independent scene as Uhaa Nation. Since then, however, things haven’t quite worked out as many would’ve hoped.

Crews has been unable to make much of a splash on the main roster thus far, and while he’s been a heel for a brief amount of time, WWE would be smart to cash in on him and turn Apollo into the next Bo Dallas. He can smile and be overly happy all he wants, but he’ll still use heelish tactics in order to secure the win that he feels he deserves.

#4 Bray Wyatt

Babyface Bray is the way to go

If we had to think of one moment that perfectly illustrates why Bray Wyatt should be a babyface, it would be when he teamed up with Roman Reigns following WrestleMania 32. It was clear to us that WWE was testing the waters for an official turn, and while they didn’t end up going through with it, the crowd were clearly on board.

If they really want to turn Bray into the next Undertaker then they need to be able to take his character to the next level, and that means mixing things up from time to time. You can always have him revert back to his insane ways in the blink of an eye because that’s the kind of flexibility that this type of character affords the writing team.

#3 Finn Balor

It's time to pull the trigger - pun intended

While we were all eager to see Finn Balor return from injury on the Raw after Mania, we all knew that there was a chance he could be lost in the shuffle on the red brand. Over the course of the last few months that seems to have come to fruition, but now, the introduction of Gallows & Anderson has completely revitalised his story.

The trio are clearly just waiting to be turned heel in an official capacity, and while they may not be able to use the Bullet Club moniker, they can certainly make an impact on Monday Night Raw. Who knows, perhaps a turn to the dark side is exactly what Finn needs to push him into that ‘main event’ category.

If anything, it’ll prove to Vince that he’s been ‘over’ all along.

#2 Dean Ambrose

Ambrose needs to make an impact upon returning

Dean Ambrose seemed to have a new lease of life when The Shield reunited earlier this year, but an injury has sidelined the Lunatic Fringe just when it seemed as if he was getting a bit of momentum back. Still, we can’t pretend like his babyface run wasn’t going stale, and the re-introduction of The Shield helped him almost as much as it helped Roman Reigns.

Ambrose was born to be a heel and when he returns, he needs to join back up with his fellow Hounds of Justice brothers before eventually turning on Seth Rollins. Why? Because it makes complete sense given that Seth was the man who essentially destroyed the stable all those years ago.

It may not happen in New Orleans, but WrestleMania 35 could be the perfect location for this iconic feud.

#1 Bobby Roode

Roode is the definition of a natural heel

He says he’s glorious and while that may be true to an extent, we haven’t been quite as interested in Bobby Roode’s babyface run in comparison to his stellar work down in NXT. Sure, it makes sense to introduce someone like Roode as a babyface because of how popular his entrance is, but aside from that his work just screams ‘I am a heel’.

Bobby doesn’t do too much of the fancy stuff we’re used to seeing because when he keeps it simple, he does everything so perfectly that it’s easy to hate him. Plus, he’s one of the only guys on the roster who can completely turn an audience from love to hate based on the delivery of his promos.

Once the transition is made, his ascent to the world title can truly begin.
