5 Tag Team Champions that you never knew existed

Yes
Some surprising Tag Teams have won championship gold over the years.

Tag team wrestling is one of the premier parts of the sport of professional wrestling. Some of the biggest stars in wrestling history were tag team specialists before having successful solo careers.

More often than not, the tag team roster is completely different from the singles roster. But once in a while, two singles competitors do come together to form a tag team and end up winning the championships in tag team competition.

That is a rare moment in wrestling as more often than not it is the specialist tag teams which rule the division. So, on that note, let us take a look at five tag team champions that you didn't know existed.

#5. Hulk Hogan and Edge

Ho
Hogan and Edge captured gold during their short stint as a tag team.

Edge is one of the greatest tag team competitors of all time with a record 14 tag team championship reigns under his belt. While most of his reigns have come with a longtime best friend, Christian, he has not had a lack of great tag team partners over the years.

One of these partners was the immortal Hulk Hogan. In 2002, the Hulkster would team up with the Rated-R superstar and the two would go on to capture tag team gold. Openly admitting to Hulk Hogan being his childhood hero, this was surely a dream come true for the Canadian superstar.

Ironically, their reign was brought to an end by the man along with whom he won seven World Tag Team Championships. Unfortunately, the two men would never win tag team gold again as a team.

#4. Bret Hart and Goldberg

The two men held tag team gold in WCW.

Goldberg is widely considered as the guy who sent Bret Hart into early retirement by kicking him directly in the head and causing a serious concussion. As a result, the two men do not like each other to this day.

But what most people forget amid their differences is that the two men were tag teams before any of this took place. While Hart was still the WCW Heavyweight Champion, the two men set their differences aside for a night and ended up winning tag team gold. They did not enjoy the longest reign though as just a week later, Hall and Nash, beat them for the titles.

This is the only tag team on this list whose championship run did not take place under the WWE banner. As a result, it might be most shocking to WWE fans as it is never mentioned on television.

#3. John Cena and Batista

Two of the stars of this century.

John Cena and Batista were two of the biggest stars in the WWE for a large portion the last decade. Both men might be better known for their matches against each other, but they also surprisingly held the WWE Tag Team Championship together at one point of time.

Cena might, in fact, be one of the worst Tag Team Champions in history with all of his reigns coming with opponents instead of real tag team partners. This time was no different as Cena and Batista were set to face off at Summerslam for the very first time ever.

Leading up to their match, the two managed to beat Legacy (Ted Dibiase Jr. and Cody Rhodes) to capture the WWE Tag team Championships but lost them back just a week later. Batista would then go on to defeat Cena at Summerslam.

#2. Stone Cold Steve Austin and Dude Love

One of the weirdest tag team champions in history.

Stone Cold had managed to win the Tag Team Championships along with Shawn Michaels but Michaels would soon get injured. With Michaels out of action, Mankind would offer to become Stone Cold's tag team partner. But understandably, Stone Cold didn't want anything to do with Mankind and would rather defend the belts alone.

But Mankind was not one to take 'no' for an answer and ended up teaming up with Stone Cold under his Dude Love persona. The two men managed to defend the titles against Owen Hart and British Bulldog and would end up becoming a permanent tag team after that.

#1. The Undertaker and The Rock

The Great One and The Deadman.

The Rock and Undertaker were two of the biggest rivals of the Attitude Era. But what most people don't know is that the two men were tag team champions together at one point in time.

In fact, they were only 24 hours removed from competing in a six-man Hell in a Cell match for the WWE Championship. But the two managed to put their differences aside for a day and captured the Tag Team Championships from Edge and Christian.

But the two men would go on to enjoy a very short reign as champions as they would lose the titles back to Edge and Christian the very next day and resume their rivalry against each other after a 48-hour run as World Tag Team Champions. In fact, their stint was so short-lived that we don't even have pictures of the two together as Tag Team Champions.
