In any form of sports or entertainment, records are revered as something special. Most professional organisations have a dedicated wing for tracking down all the records and stats associated with a particular event.

As former Olympic champion Mark Spitz once mentioned, though - "Records are meant to be broken", and this is It is very true when it comes to the case of World Wrestling Entertainment. Current WWE Champion AJ Styles recently broke John Bradshaw Layfield's record of being the longest reigning Smackdown World Champion. Brock Lesnar snapped The Undertaker's undefeated record at Wrestlemania 30, and most recently, Kofi Kingston became the longest reigning tag team champion of all time in WWE as he surpassed Billy Gunn's record of 953 days.

In WWE, some records are virtually untouchable - The Undertaker's 24 win record at Wrestlemania is a perfect example. No one will even come close to this insane number of victories at the grandest stage of them all. Nicholas's recent record of being the youngest champion in WWE history is also an untouchable record at the moment.

However, there are many records in WWE history books that could be shattered in the coming months. In this list, we will be taking a look at those records. So without further adieu, let's get started.

#5. The record of most women's title reigns

Trish Stratus is a legend in WWE. Even in the male-dominated era of the early 2000's, Trish managed to main event an episode of RAW, alongside Lita. Being one of the most decorated female superstars of the company, Stratus held the record for the most number of women's title reigns with 7, until a few weeks ago.

Charlotte Flair is one of WWE's new generation of female superstar who played a huge role in the women's revolution. The queen is already a seven-time women's champion, matching Stratus's record after just three years on the main roster. Surely then, it is just a matter of time before Flair becomes an eight-time women's champion and breaks the legendary record.

#4. The 434 - Longest WWE Championship reign in the modern era

CM Punk's record is under threat

Whether you want to admit it or not, CM Punk's WWE Championship reign was outstanding, despite the fact that a lot of his matches were relegated to the upper mid-card spots. His heel turn was impeccable and his promo wars against The Rock were savage. However, the Straight Edge superstar did not part ways with WWE on good terms, leaving the company after the 2014 Royal Rumble for various reasons.

Now, WWE is adamant on removing his name from their record books. The most prominent record of the Second City Saint is his 434 day WWE Championship reign - which is the longest such reign in the modern era. Even though Brock Lesnar surpassed that record as Universal Champion, Punks is still the longest reigning "WWE" Champion of the Modern Era.

However, current WWE champion - AJ Styles, who is in his second reign as champion is close behind Punk. Styles has carried the belt for around a year now and it won't be long before The Phenomenal One breaks Punk's brilliant record.

#3. Most number of PPV appearances

Even though Kane is currently not the monster we knew 19 years ago, he is still one of WWE's most trusted employees.

The Knox County mayor holds the record for most Pay Per View appearances for WWE with a whopping 174. However, the Big Red Machine's record is under a direct threat from his kayfabe brother - The Undertaker. The Undertaker is narrowly trailing behind Kane with a total number of 170 appearances. Since the Deadman is getting back in the ring and making sporadic PPV appearances, it might only be a matter of months before Taker overtakes Kane.

Triple H and John Cena are also trailing the brothers of destruction with 168 and 160 appearances respectively. Even though he is lagging behind Kane by an amount of 23 appearances, Randy Orton is still a full-time worker and has a great chance of topping the list - from out of nowhere.

#2. Most number of matches on SmackDown

SmackDown has been on the air for around 20 years. The blue brand has been more of a wrestling-oriented show - a contrast to RAW which always has been a story driven show. It may or may not be a shock that the Big Show has had the most number of matches on Smackdown - with a giant total of 313.

However, a recently returned superstar is just below the world's largest athlete in this list. Rey Mysterio has competed in 290 matches for the blue brand.

There is every chance that The Master of the 619 will overtake Big Show in the coming months, given the fact that he is a regular competitor on the show and The Big Show is not. It is just a matter of time before Mysterio, quite deservingly, snatches the record away from Big Show.

#1. Ric Flairs world title reigns

This one is probably the most obvious one on this list but takes the top spot for a reason. Although Ric Flair has won more than 16 world titles during his career, the WWE's official number for the record is 16.

John Cena, the poster boy of WWE during the PG era is currently a sixteen-time World Champion and still has a few years of wrestling left in him. Thus it is entirely possible that the Cenation leader will climb the ladder and take the top spot for himself.

Cena's illustrious career has seen him clinch the WWE championship a record 13 times and the World Heavyweight Championship three times, meaning he needs just one more World Title victory to make the record his own.

However, due to his hectic Hollywood schedule, Cena now works part-time and has not been a part of any storylines since his Wrestlemania match against The Undertaker, meaning that we may have to wait a while to see him take top spot.
