5 WWE Superstars who should return to NXT

NXt have
Some NXT outcasts have found their way on the main roster

Well, after looking at the top ten NXT Superstars who should move up to the main roster very soon, I thought it would only be fair to look at the other end of the scale - the Superstars who have already moved up to the main roster, but haven't quite lived up to fan expectation, usually through poor booking, and who could do with a bit more time in NXT before returning to the main roster in the future.

There's no doubt some Superstars have done it all, huge in NXT and translated perfectly to the main roster, even using the yellow brand to hone their craft and polish themselves before jumping up - like we've seen from the likes of Seth Rollins, Finn Balor, Samoa Joe, Bobby Roode, Shinsuke Nakamura, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. While those names are all previous champions on the yellow brand, even stars like Elias and Baron Corbin have perhaps surpassed expectations on Raw and SmackDown - but not everyone is so lucky.

So, here are my top five Superstars who should go back to NXT to try pick up momentum again, as it's just not working out for them on the main roster.

#5 Bobby Roode

R
Roode's main roster run has been less than glorious

Okay, so I should start by saying it's not all doom and gloom. Roode is, after all, a former United States Champion - but after sitting atop the NXT mountain for so long, there were very high expectations on Roode.

There's no doubt that Roode is a quality talent, but it just seems that WWE hasn't got much in the way of storylines for the Glorious one. If asked instantly, I'd have a very hard time naming a meaningful rivalry Roode has been involved in since moving to the main roster, with maybe his title feud with Randy Orton being the standout - if you can call any of them that.

There was promise for the former TNA man on SmackDown, but since moving to Raw, it seems like Roode has been involved in bit-part feuds only designed to fill five-minute segments in a three-hour show.

#4 No Way Jose

Sh
Should Jose have been moved up to Raw during the Shake-Up? No Way, Jose!

So, I'll start this by saying I like the No Way Jose gimmick, but if you were guessing NXT stars who were going to be called up in the last Superstar Shake-up, I doubt Jose would have been at the top of anyone's list.

While I believe, like Elias, Jose's gimmick works a lot better on the main roster, he's essentially doing the same thing in WWE as Roode, but on an even smaller scale - less than five minute appearances, most of which is made up by leading a conga line to the ring, only to be in a 50-50 booking feud with the likes of Mojo Rawley.

So far, all we know about Jose is he likes dancing and, while the backstage segments can be entertaining and while Jose is undoubtedly a huge talent - he wasn't exactly lighting NXT on fire before being brought up.

No Way Jose is one man who should not have been fast-tracked to the main roster as it almost eliminates the aspect of danger if he ever turns heel. For me, Jose should go back to NXT, win a title, gain a reputation for his quality in-ring work and come back to Raw. Then the possibility is there for him to turn heel and say people see him as a joke when he's actually a former champion - or as a face, he could just be booked stronger and praised by the commentators for his work - rather than being simply there for comedic value.

#3 Tyler Breeze

Tyle
Tyler Breeze had quite the wait for his call-up

Well, with Fandango, Breeze has made lemonade out of lemons as the severely underutilised pair went from near obscurity to being one of SmackDown's hottest teams, and doing so while never really wrestling a match.

The Fashion Police's Fashion Files segment - and various spin-offs - made them huge fan favourites, but WWE never capitalised and gave them the gold before, even worse, moving them to Raw. Then the unthinkable happened, Fandango got injured - so WWE reverted back to Tyler Breeze's old gimmick, rather than keeping him in canon until Fandango's return and, well, nothing's changed so far as how Prince Pretty is being booked.

Where to start with Tyler Breeze as a singles competitor? A mainstay of the NXT brand during his time there, always the almost man, lingering about the main event scene and even wrestling a certain Jushin Thunder Liger. Breeze spent five years in NXT and always seemed like he was the next man to get a shot at the NXT Championship, but it never quite happened for him.

Breeze debuted on the main roster, though, in a rivalry with Dolph Ziggler that never quite took off and somehow ended up going on a 20 match losing streak. He's still at last appearing on television, though, but in-ring wins are difficult to come by for Prince Pretty.

#2 Tye Dillinger

Dillinger's
Dillinger's main roster career hasn't quite been a 10

Well, Tye Dillinger's main roster debut was perfect. You could even say it was a 10!

Dillinger debuted in the Royal Rumble to a rapturous ovation when he came in at the number 10, and the 37-year-old veteran is probably one of WWE's most over talents when he comes out from behind the curtain. The downfall is how often that happens, and how he's booked.

Dillinger is an incredible in-ring talent who's effectively made a great gimmick out of a number - but WWE just doesn't use him, even on SmackDown. Dillinger is another star who could have done with a run in NXT as champion and, like Tyler Breeze, it took quite a while for him to get to the main roster. Sadly, it just hasn't worked out for Dillinger, whose talent seems almost wasted in short matches every once in a blue moon.

#1 The Ascension

Kon
Konnor and Viktor could do with a return to NXT

There was simply no other choice here. It's two for the price of one in the top spot.

NXT's longest reigning Tag Team Champions and one of the most dominant forces in NXT history simply can't buy a win right now - and it's been like that for quite a long time. Whenever the Ascension are in the ring, you can almost guarantee their opposition is going to win, and most likely in super-quick time.

In NXT, The Ascension destroyed everything in their path, including legendary WWE tag team Too Cool and the Lucha Dragons, before eventually losing the titles to the Lucha Dragons one day short of a one-year reign, and then had another rare loss to an impressive pair of Finn Balor and Hideo Itami.

Well, on the main roster, the losses have not been quite so rare. The pair has found themselves getting scraps of TV time alongside Breeze and Fandango in the Fashion Files segments, but their time on SmackDown saw them lose incredibly quickly to Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin just weeks after suffering a similar fate to the Bludgeon Brothers before moving to Raw, where they had an impressive match against the Deleters of Worlds - again in a losing effort.

The Ascension had a great start on the main roster, but it was just that. The pair fell to nWo's Scott Hall, Kevin Nash and X Pac, before being laid out by the APA and the New Age Outlaws. While The Ascension got a win over Billy Gunn and Road Dogg, things quickly went downhill for The Ascension.

In 2015, The Ascension returned to NXT for one night only to answer the challenge of American Alpha in a match that saw the crowd show their appreciation to the former champs.

If this match showed anything, its that the Ascension could do with a return to NXT, particularly with the Undisputed Era ruling the roost on the yellow brand right now - although that time may also have passed with the War Raiders looking like the future of the brand.

The Ascension are probably the most underutilised Superstars on WWE television right now, and I can only hope their luck changes soon - although it doesn't look likely.
