Is the WWE overwhelming their fans with too many elements in the Roman Reigns vs Braun Strowman Hell In A Cell match this Sunday? Let's break down each element tied to this matchup.
#5 Hell In A Cell
The obvious element is the fact that the match will be in the Hell In A Cell enclosure. It's the name of the event and there are two other Hell In A Cell matches that night, so adding additional elements to this match does make sense simply to help make it different from the other Hell In A Cell matches occurring that night.
This also isn't Roman Reigns first match in the Hell In A Cell environment. He won both of his previous matches in the enclosure, so adding more elements on top of the Cell will, in theory, make it more challenging for the Hell In A Cell veteran.
#4 Money In The Bank
Braun Strowman cashed in his Money In The Bank briefcase to get this opportunity at Hell In A Cell. Adding this element to the match actually cancels out this element and makes it somewhat irrelevant. Part of the appeal of the Money Of The Bank briefcase is you never know when the holder will decide to cash it in.
Some of the WWE Universe's biggest pops have happened when someone has attempted to cash in the briefcase. Strowman cashing in the briefcase to get this match, a match he was likely to get without cashing in the briefcase, negates the whole point of the briefcase. That hasn't stopped the announce team from reminding the viewers that the Money In The Bank brief case is still an element in this match.
#3 Strowman, McIntyre and Ziggler
Braun Strowman aligning himself with Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre makes sense, considering Roman Reigns has The Shield in his corner, but how much this will play into the Hell In A Cell matchup itself is yet to be seen.
Pairing these three together helped to level the playing field and also gave the WWE an excuse to take the tag titles from The B Team and set up a matchup with Ziggler/McIntyre and Rollins/Ambrose at the event, but will these alliances play a role in the Hell In A Cell main event.
The whole point of having a match in the Hell In A Cell is not only to keep the wrestlers contained but to also keep wrestlers out. Why would Braun Strowman need to align with Ziggler/McIntyre if The Shield won't be able to interfere anyways?
#2 The Heel Locker Room
If Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre weren't enough, Braun also engaged the entire heel side of the RAW locker room to attack The Shield. One time would've been enough, but this week the entire locker room was out again, this time surrounding the ring while Braun and the newly crowned tag-team champions addressed the audience.
Will the heel side of the locker room play a role in the match on Sunday? A couple months ago Braun Strowman was "A Monster Among Men" and seemingly unstoppable.
Aligning him with Ziggler/McIntyre and the entire heel side of the RAW locker room weakens that unstoppable monster persona. It also weakens other heels like Elias, Kevin Owens, and Jinder Mahal by having them play the minor role of minions in Braun's army to take on The Shield
#1 Mick Foley
It's been 20 years since the infamous Undertaker vs Mick Foley Hell In A Cell match. The match that almost killed Mick Foley and took his career to a whole new level. The match that set the bar for how dangerous the Hell In A Cell match can be. It makes sense to acknowledge the anniversary. The WWE knows its fans love a little bit of nostalgia so an appearance by Mick Foley makes sense. But why as the special guest referee in the Braun Strowman/Roman Reigns match up? Why add this element? Not only does this seem like an odd addition to the matchup, but the announcement didn't even include Strowman or Reigns. Mick Foley told Elias who has nothing to do with the match.
And that's not all...there are a handful of smaller elements at play. Baron Corbin, the threat of The Shield getting arrested, there's rumours of The Shield getting new members, even the B-Team might get involved somehow wanting to get their titles.back.
Roman Reigns vs Braun Strowman in a Hell In A Cell match was enough on its own. Anyone of these additional elements added to the match would've been great, but adding all of them to one match is bordering on too much and has the potential of leaving WWE fans very confused.
