List Of Possible Matches That Could Happen At SummerSlam 2018

Enter captio

Summerslam is still a solid month and a half away, but speculation surrounding the event is underway. High profile matches against Universal Champion Brock Lesnar and WWE Champion AJ Styles are sure to happen, along with rivalries that WWE has brewing in the buildup to the biggest party of the summer.

From speculation to certainty, here are some of the matches to potentially look forward to by Summerslam 2018.

Raw Tag Team Championship: The Deleters of Worlds (c.) vs. The Authors of Pain

While the Authors of Pain haven't seen much TV time since their debut in April, they could be the next challengers in line to Bray Wyatt and Matt Hardy's tag team titles – that is, if they still aren't feuding with the B-team come August.

Akam and Rezar would pose a legitimate threat to The Deleters of Worlds' championships and be a fresh challenge for the duo in Raw's relatively thin tag team pool. If so, we could see AOP beat down Hardy and Wyatt, perhaps even dismantling the Hardy compound in the weeks coming up.

If WWE decides to pull the trigger on this feud by Summerslam, it would be a great way to give the Authors of Pain a big win and send a message to the rest of Raw's tag team division.

Smackdown Women's Championship: Carmella (c.) vs. Becky Lynch

While Carmella has been a stellar heel champion on the blue brand, a series of bland matches with Charlotte Flair and Asuka have done to legitimize Carmella as a true champion. However, it is still early on in her reign atop Smackdown Live's women's division, and what better way to give her a breakout match than go against the lass-kicker, Becky Lynch.

Lynch has rebounded gloriously since Wrestlemania 34, putting away any doubts in her winning efforts against The Iiconics and an outstanding performance in the women's Money in the Bank Ladder match in June.

While Carmella still has Asuka to worry about at Extreme Rules, expect her to retain with even more interference from a returning James Ellsworth. Lynch could continue to rack up more big wins en route to Summerslam, making this match a must-see.

Lynch is phenomenal between the ropes, and she could be a great champion to go up against the Princess of Staten Island at the biggest party of the summer just across the way in Brooklyn.

United States Championship: Jeff Hardy (c.) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

I have the champion's mark next to Jeff Hardy because he is still champion at the time of this being written, but the United States Championship could likely change at Extreme Rules if Hardy and Nakamura – who are both shaking off injuries – can make the match in the upcoming weeks.

If the match at Extreme Rules is a go and we see Nakamura defeat Hardy, this bout could be an exciting followup from Extreme Rules. If not, the match could get a long build-up where the now face paint-clad Hardy tries to avoid Nakamura's dastardly heel antics.

While Nakamura is 0-6 in WWE Championship matches, a US title shot is not a step down for the rockstar. But, that's an article for another time...

Bayley vs. Sasha Banks

I mean, it's about time that this match happens, right?

We've seen what these two can do in the ring, just look at their match from NXT Takeover Brooklyn and Respect. We all know what these two are capable of in a big-fight feel, and what better place to do the blowoff to their feud than at Summerslam?

While we could see this feud take place at Extreme Rules, it's simply too good between the two competitors for it to last one match.

The buildup may have been frustrating, but Bayley and Sasha Banks could put on one of the show stealers of the night.

Smackdown Tag Team Championship: Team Hell No (c.) vs. The Bludgeon Brothers vs. SaNiTy

I am firmly in the belief that the recently united Team Hell No will be the ones to dethrone The Bludgeon Brothers. A gruelling Extreme Rules-style matchup at the eponymous pay per view in July would be a great way for Daniel Bryan to continue his journey back to the top of Smackdown Live alongside Kane.

This doesn't mean that Harper and Rowan have to go away after Extreme Rules either. They could evoke their rematch clause the Smackdown Live afterwards, and SaNiTy could interfere and leave their mark on the tag division as well. This would set up a three-way title match where we could see the newcomers steal the titles in a dusty finish while giving it a solid spotlight on the main card.

Intercontinental Championship: Dolph Ziggler (c.) vs. Drew McIntyre

After far too long in heel limbo, Dolph Ziggler seems to have hit his stride once he jumped ship to Raw in the superstar shakeup.

Aligning him with Drew McIntyre has done wonders for both men, with Ziggler capturing the Intercontinental title for a sixth time a couple of weeks ago. Ziggler and McIntyre have a great Shawn Michaels/Diesel dynamic to them, but all good things must come to an end.

Maybe Ziggler unintentionally costs McIntyre the multiman #1 contender's match at Extreme Rules, which could set the latter off on Raw the next night. This would turn McIntyre into a fan favourite and give him a legitimate shot with the title he familiarized himself within his first run with WWE.

Raw Women's Championship: Alexa Bliss (c.) vs. Ronda Rousey

This match seems like one of the few certainties on this list, with Rousey's 30-day "suspension" being lifted right after Extreme Rules.

The events leading up to her suspension tell the story itself, with Rousey coming for revenge against Bliss, who cost her the Raw Women's Championship at Money in the Bank against Nia Jax.

Rousey will look to reclaim what she feels is rightfully hers, and – much to the chagrin of Roman Reigns fans – will get a big reaction from being on the prowl.

Expect Bliss to be confronted the night after Extreme Rules by Rousey, and WWE has their top women's feud right in front of them come August.

WWE Championship: AJ Styles (c.) vs. Samoa Joe

styles joe
We've seen AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe in TNA, but will we see it at Summerslam 2018?

AJ Styles is truly the workhorse of Smackdown Live. He is a champion that takes on all challengers, as evident as he starts his Extreme Rules program with the white-hot Rusev. Styles is a champion that could never lose the belt and fans won't get tired of it, but that also is an article for another day...

Samoa Joe, on the other hand, is making waves with his fantastic promos and taking names in Smackdown Live as he looks to establish himself as the top heel on the brand (alongside The Miz).

Styles and Joe have done battle outside of WWE, but at their biggest show of the summer, WWE will be looking to put on a stellar match with two of its best in the ring, and Styles and Joe can put on one hell of a fight for the top prize in the world.

Universal Championship: Brock Lesnar (c.) vs. Seth Rollins

seth brock
If Brock Lesnar even shows up for Summerslam, Seth Rollins should be next in line

Rumours are running wild as to if the Beast Incarnate will even compete at Summerslam, but this writer thinks he will. There is no reason for Lesnar to miss one of WWE's big four shows unless he's really testing the USADA pool to fight in the UFC in the near future.

If and when Lesnar does announce a match at Summerslam, with the multi-man #1 contender's match seemingly being called off kayfabe, I believe the match will continue, and the winner will be Seth Rollins.

Why else have Rollins, who has carried Raw on his shoulders for the better part of three months, drop the Intercontinental Championship in the middle of a hot run?

Rollins is obviously destined for bigger and better things in the Raw main event scene, and a showdown with the Beast is sure fire for Summerslam, albeit if Lesnar doesn't show up...
