What’s the Story?

After news of the neck injury broke that caused speculation on Paige’s career, WWE confirmed that the Anti-Diva won’t be participating in the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble.

In case you didn’t know...

Paige has not returned to competing in the ring since suffering an injury that caused her to lose the sense of feeling in her neck at a house show back in December. The injury was believed to be a temporary setback, but her long-standing neck issues may have caused a premature end to her in-ring career.

The heart of the matter

WWE commented on Paige’s status for the Women’s Royal Rumble on Raw and confirmed that she was ineligible to compete in the match with the following statement:

As reported during tonight’s Monday Night Raw broadcast, Paige will not compete in this year’s historic 30-Woman Royal Rumble Match due to a neck injury.

Paige’s recent injury caused many to speculate her condition for the upcoming Rumble match, but the news that came out this weekend suggests that the Raw Superstar is done as an in-ring performer for WWE.

The former Diva’s Champion last wrestled for the company on December 28, 2017, at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, Long Island where Absolution took on Bayley, Mickie James, and Sasha Banks in a 6-woman tag team match.

Banks delivered a dropkick to Paige’s back that caused her to lose feeling in her extremities and resulted in the match being called off. She was believed to have suffered a stinger, or a nerve pinch injury, and was pulled from in-ring action for what was originally believed to be a timetable of a few weeks.

However, her neck issues have been rumored to lead to the end of her WWE career as an in-ring performer.

What’s next?

With the company only addressing her status with the Royal Rumble, the company could be waiting for a better time to make the announcement or possibly getting more tests to reinforce the issue.
