What’s the story?

Former WWE superstar Rey Mysterio was interviewed by ESPN regarding a possible return to the company and he admitted he'd be open to the possibility of coming back.

In case you didn't know..

Mysterio joined WWE in 2002, a year after WCW closed. He went on to become one of the company's biggest stars while winning multiple championships along the way including the WWE Championship, World Heavyweight Championship and original Cruiserweight title too.

The heart of the matter

Mysterio said that he would love to come back make his career end on a much bigger note than his previous release back in 2015.

"I would definitely love to go back and finish up. Whether it's one year or whatever the case might be, a farewell. I owe a lot to that company - they gave me such an amazing opportunity and I took advantage of every single moment I was with WWE to the fullest."

With that being said, Mysterio admitted that the schedule he was working prior to his departure would not be the same he could work if he did make a return.

"I don't think I can go back [to a full-time schedule]. There's just no way. It would be common sense for them as well, that was my main motive for stepping away as I wanted to be able to have some free time. I'm still working really hard right now on the independent scene, but I control my schedule."

Since leaving two years ago, he has resumed wrestling on the indies and other promotions including Lucha Underground.

What's next?

Mysterio making a return to WWE would be an interesting concept, considering how the Cruiserweight Division has been revived in recent years. WWE could ask him to appear on 205 Live to boost the show's viewership, although it's likely he would feature more regularly as part of either Raw or SmackDown instead.

Author's take

Having Mysterio back in the WWE would be a nice surprise and one which could lead to some epic matches with main roster talent in the future.
