What’s the story?

In an interview with The Des Moines Register, Seth Rollins opened up on a myriad of topics.

Rollins addressed rumors of animosity between him and Finn Balor, while also explaining how heels & faces work in today’s pro-wrestling scene. Besides, Rollins also spoke about his signature move the Curb Stomp (now known as the Blackout).

In case you didn’t know…

Seth Rollins and Finn Balor have previously engaged in a memorable feud over the WWE Universal Championship.

While Balor and Rollins subsequently suffered injuries and were out of action following their feud, their rehabilitation and recovery alongside one another is well-documented on the WWE Network—a documentary that chronicled their rivalry as well as the fact that they indeed worked together under the guidance of the WWE medical team while on the road to recovery.

The heart of the matter

Seth Rollins asserted that in today’s pro-wrestling world, being a heel or a face doesn’t really matter, as the crowd at times cheers the heels and boos the faces. Rollins added that the primary motive is to have fun and develop a strong character & personality to make oneself stand apart from other WWE Superstars.

Furthermore, Rollins elucidated that he’s happy about being able to use the Curb Stomp (now—Blackout) again in the WWE after the move was banned for about 3 years. Rollins continued, stating that the move got a positive reaction from the fans in attendance at the event as well as the online audience. The Architect also shot down banter of his personal animosity with Finn Balor—

“Finn and I obviously have a competitive rivalry based on the fact that we're both world-travelled athletes. We've been doing this for a long time and we both have our eye on the same prize, which is being the best, being the Universal Champion. Every time we get the opportunity to step into the ring with each other, we're going to push each other to be the best and to go to that next level. There's definitely no personal animosity there, I think we're just trying to push the limits of what's the best wrestling that you can see on TV is."

What’s next?

Seth Rollins recently lost his RAW Tag Team Championship after his partner Jason Jordan was unable to compete in the matchup; leaving Rollins to fend for himself against Sheamus & Cesaro during the Tag Title Match at the Royal Rumble PPV.

On the other hand, Finn Balor also ended up on the losing end in his Elimination Chamber Qualifying Match against John Cena, on this week’s episode of RAW.

Author’s take

Seth Rollins is spot-on as regards the heel-face dynamics have changed in today’s professional wrestling industry.

As for talk of his animosity with Finn Balor, both Superstars are highly competitive, and healthy competition between top performers in their primes isn't a bad thing at all.
