WWE News: Sting reveals his toughest opponent

What's the story?

WWE Hall of Famer Sting spoke at the Arizona Comic Con, not long ago, and was asked about his toughest opponent. To the surprise of everyone assembled, he named Kurt Angle with whom he worked during his TNA days.

Another name he mentioned from his early days was Big Van Vader. We thank Sports Illustrated for the transcript.

In case you didn't know...

Sting was one of the most important wrestlers in WCW, and one man who never jumped ship to WWE, until many years later. He was part of a losing effort against Triple H at WrestleMania 31, in his WWE debut.

While Sting never came to WWE, he had a great second phase of his career in TNA. He was the first man to be inducted into the Impact Hall of Fame.

Sting had many great matches with the younger talent in TNA too, including AJ Styles and Samoa Joe.

The heart of the matter

When Sting was asked about the toughest men he'd ever stepped into the ring with, he had this to say:

One of the toughest opponents I had in the early days was Big Van Vader.

But that's all he had to say about the man he had his iconic feuds with, because he went on to shower praise upon Kurt Angle:

But in my later years, it was Kurt Angle. They called him ‘The Machine,’ and Kurt is a machine. He just does not stop. He’s pretty relentless and very physical. You’ve got to be at the top of your game to wrestle Kurt. He is a perfectionist and demands a lot of everyone around him.

Sting also spoke about retiring at the Hall of Fame ceremony, during this interview citing health reasons.

And of course, he spoke about the match against The Undertaker, that never came to pass.

Sting has retired from the ring. He is still very active in the wrestling circuit, visiting fan conventions and making special appearances for WWE. He still keeps talking about The Undertaker.
