An interesting go-home show for Hell In A Cell

SmackDown kicked off will 10 rings of the bell to honour the tragedy of 9/11. Jeff Hardy and Shinsuke Nakamura kicked us off with a revisit of their old match at SummerSlam!

Jeff Hardy vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

Nakamura started hitting a series of kicks to Hardy, who stopped him in his tracks and caught his leg. Nakamura cleverly countered the movements to hit an Enziugri on Hardy. The WWE legend, however, countered a run by Nakamura via a sling blade. Nakamura started the match with off with mind games. Hardy slammed Nakamura into the barricade before running right into him. Jeff Hardy had control after the commercials, slamming Nakamura into the turnbuckles, but the US Champ managed to get control back.

Nakamura tried to go for the Kinshasa but was stopped before Hardy hit a Twist Of Fate. He looked to get ready for the Swanton Bomb but out came Randy Orton, who pulled his leg out from underneath him. Orton brutally assaulted Hardy, slamming his head against the steel steps. The match was already DQ'd at this point and Orton got ready to dish out the RKO.

Hardy escaped the attempt and snatched the steel chair, using it to hit Orton repeatedly. He then hit a Twist Of Fate and stood there admiring his work.

Result: Jeff Hardy def. Shinsuke Nakamura via DQ

The Miz and Maryse were interviewed backstage about Maryse's upcoming match and she said that Bryan took 3 years to return to the ring while she just took 5 months post-pregnancy. They called the "Yes couple" out and say that they couldn't do any better so they settled for each other.

AJ Styles cut a promo before SmackDown aired. He said that Samoa Joe knew he had a short temper and that it comes out of him when he brings up his family. Styles said that he's known Joe for 20 years and that all the strengths he has will turn into his weaknesses - At Hell In A Cell, the talking stops and the intimidation ends.

Charlotte vs. Sonya DeVille

The Queen thrives on competition

DeVille started off strong with a flurry of offence against Flair. Charlotte countered a sunset flip into a new move, a knee pressing her head down. Mandy Rose's distraction fails and results in Charlotte whacking DeVille in the face with the big boot.

Back in the ring, DeVille and Charlotte were going back and forth. DeVille caught Charlotte in the triangle lock but The Queen lifted her up with all her power and powerbombed her. Flair got the figure-8 leg lock for the win!

Result: Charlotte Flair def. Sonya DeVille

Charlotte was celebrating when a black-haired member of the WWE Universe attacked her. It was Becky Lynch in a wig. She put her in an armbar and made a statement before Hell In A Cell.

Samoa Joe told a "bedtime story" about AJ Styles and his family in a backstage segment. Joe just can't stop taunting AJ.

The Bar vs Rusev Day - #1 Contender's Match for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles

Who secured a spot at Hell In A Cell?

Rusev and Sheamus began the action and The Bar do what they do best - quick tag ins and tag outs to wear out their opponents. Rusev managed to tag English who hit the crossbody

Rusev had the accolade on Cesaro but Sheamus interjected on time to break it up. The Bar teamed up to hit the double DDT on Rusev, who kicks out

They had cornered Rusev trying to isolate him but he managed to knock Cesaro off. Sheamus subsequently hit a powerslam but wasn't successful in putting them away. He looked a bit frustrated now

Sheamus was ready for the Brogue Kick but English got in the way. Aiden's sacrifice wasn't in vain. Rusev hit a superkick Sheamus and pinned him!

Result: Rusev Day def. The Bar to become #1 contenders for the SmackDown Tag Team titles

R-Truth vs Andrade 'Cien' Almas

R-Truth came out with Carmella, seemingly cementing their alliance and turning Carmella face.

R-Truth evaded Almas' offence and started showboating a bit. He hit a splash on Almas and went for the scissor kick but missed. Almas sat in the mid-ropes with the Tranquilo pose and Zelina joined him. Carmella hilariously pulled her away and slammed her on the floor.

Almas was momentarily distracted but he reversed Truth's pin and grabbed his tights for the three-count.

Result: Andrade 'Cien' Almas def. R-Truth

Brie Bella vs. Maryse

Enter

Maryse avoided Brie and escaped the ring before Bella got a mic and called her a coward. The Miz said Brie doesn't deserve to be in the same ring as his wife. Miz said the match is over and they walked away but Brie attacked Maryse on the ramp and brought her to the ring.

Maryse hit a kick after a distraction but Brie caught her in the Yes Lock but Miz grabbed Bella by the leg and pulled her outside. Bryan attacked Miz and then went to help Brie. Miz attacked Danil Bryan from behind as Maryse attacked Brie. Bella and Bryan took out the 'it' couple in the ring together as the show ended.

Result: Brie Bella def. Maryse via DQ
