WWE WrestleMania 35: 5 match rumours that you need to know

The
The Rock and Ronda Rousey could be in high-profile matches

WWE WrestleMania 35 will take place at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on 7 April 2019.

In previous years, die-hard followers of the WWE product have had a good idea about which matches will take place at the annual extravaganza several months in advance – for example, Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 34 was rumored a year before it even happened – and the early build-up to WrestleMania 35 has been no different.

The big rumor about the show in recent weeks has surrounded The Rock, who WWE is reportedly trying to book in a match in the same arena where he faced John Cena at WrestleMania 29, while there has been speculation that the event will be headlined by women for the first time in history.

Recent WrestleManias have been dominated by match-ups between one part-time legendary Superstar and one full-time current Superstar, so will WWE go down that route again in 2019 or will they adopt a different approach?

Right now, while no matches appear to be set in stone, the rumour mill suggests that several full-time members of the roster will be given a chance to shine on “The Grandest Stage of Them All” next year.

In this article, let’s take a look at five WrestleMania 35 match rumors that you need to know about.

#5 Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte Flair

Charlotte Flair defeated Asuka at WrestleMania 34

Ever since Ronda Rousey stepped foot in a WWE ring, fans have been wondering when the former UFC megastar will go one-on-one with Charlotte Flair.

Immediately after WrestleMania 34, it was speculated that WWE could build towards a Triple Threat match between Ronda, Charlotte and Asuka at WrestleMania 35, but it looks more likely at this stage that it will be Ronda vs. Charlotte in a singles match.

Both women stood out at WrestleMania 34, with Charlotte ending Asuka’s undefeated streak and Ronda getting physical with Triple H on her WWE debut, and it’s quite clear from the way that the two champions have been booked in recent months that WWE views them as the top women in the company.

#4 Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz

Brie Bella has got involved in the Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz storyline

During a July 2018 interview with the Gorilla Position podcast, Daniel Bryan questioned whether WWE is capable of telling a long-term story between him and The Miz that could lead to a final match at WrestleMania 35.

Since that interview, the feud has been revived on WWE television, with Miz defeating Bryan at SummerSlam, and two more matches involving the rivals have been scheduled for the next few weeks: Bryan & Brie Bella vs. Miz & Maryse (Hell In A Cell) and Bryan vs. Miz (Super Show-Down) in a WWE Championship #1 contender match.

Assuming that the current series of matches will end when one of them moves on to challenge AJ Styles or Samoa Joe for the WWE Championship, it has been widely predicted that Bryan could win the 2019 Royal Rumble and go on to challenge The Miz for the WWE title at WrestleMania 35.

#3 The Undertaker vs. John Cena

The Undertaker destroyed John Cena at WrestleMania 34

The Undertaker vs. John Cena was a dream match that WWE fans had waited to see on the WrestleMania stage for over a decade.

When it finally took place at WrestleMania 34, the end result was somewhat underwhelming, with ‘Taker squashing the 16-time world champion in just 2 minutes and 45 seconds, but it also opened up the possibility of a rematch between the two somewhere down the line.

The assumption in the months after ‘Mania was that the two WWE icons would meet again at this year’s SummerSlam, but that didn’t happen and it now looks more likely that Cena could look to get his revenge on “The Deadman” in New Jersey next year.

#2 Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose

Will Roman Reigns headline WrestleMania for the fifth time?

The Shield recently reunited for the second year in a row on Monday Night Raw, so it’s only natural that the WWE Universe has immediately started speculating how, when and why they are going to inevitably split up.

It has been reported by SliceWrestling that WWE is planning for the three men to face each other in a Triple Threat match at WrestleMania 35 – something that hasn’t happened since July 2016 when Dean Ambrose retained the WWE Championship at Battleground.

Speaking to WWE’s official website earlier this year, four-time WrestleMania main-eventer Roman Reigns said he would like to face his fellow Shield members at WrestleMania 35 if a match against Daniel Bryan isn’t possible.

#1 Roman Reigns vs. The Rock

Alternatively, if Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose doesn’t happen at WrestleMania 35, another possible match for “The Big Dog” could be against The Rock.

The two relatives previously featured together on WWE television at the 2015 Royal Rumble, with “The Great One” returning to help Reigns get the victory, and there has been increased talk recently that he could make a comeback after he was listed as the favorite to win the 2019 Royal Rumble.

Current odds, courtesy of SkyBet, also have Reigns vs. The Rock as the second-favorite to headline WrestleMania 35, with Charlotte Flair vs. Ronda Rousey the favorite.
