Mumbai Indians (MI) star Suryakumar Yadav produced a terrific knock of 78 from 53 deliveries in the all-important encounter against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Mullanpur on April 18.

Suryakumar walked in after the early wicket of Ishan Kishan in the third over and immidiately looked in supreme touch. Surya smashed seven boundaries and three maximums on a two-paced wicket to lead MI to a formidable total of 192/7 in 20 overs.

It was his second half-century of IPL 2024 in four innings after missing MI's opening three games. Suryakumar's return to form bodes well for the side as they look to bounce back from second to bottom on the points table with only two wins in six matches.

The World No.1 T20I batter was out of action from the end of last year until his recent return with an ankle injury.

Fans on Twitter were impressed by Suryakumar Yadav getting into his groove after a four-month layoff and praised his knock against PBKS.

Here are some of the best reactions:

The praises continued for Suryakumar's second half-century in his last three innings with one fan saying:

"Incredible performance by Suryakumar Yadav! His comeback is as stunning as his game. Sky is truly shining in Mullanpur."
"GOAT player GOATed inning. Bow down to Suryakumar Yadav," said a fan.
"A brilliant knock comes to an end for Suryakumar Yadav!" tweeted a fan.

"If it remains the same, our total is way above par" - Suryakumar Yadav on Mullanpur wicket

Suryakumar Yadav expressed confidence that MI's total against PBKS is way above par on a challenging wicket in Mullanpur.

The T20 superstar has alternated between half-centuries and ducks in his first four innings of IPL 2024. However, it was one of Surya's slower knocks, evidenced by his reaching 50 in 34 deliveries.

At the innings break, Suryakumar told the broadcasters:

"That shows there are ups and downs in life (on his ducks and fifties so far this season). I have started fielding slowly, so hopefully I will be there for full 40 overs. We discussed yesterday that one batter should stay there till 17th or 18th over. So I started slower than usual today. There was no dew in the last couple of days. If it remains the same, our total is way above par."

Both MI and PBKS have been struggling with only two wins in six games, making the ongoing clash a near must-win.

PBKS are without regular skipper Shikhar Dhawan due to a shoulder injury, with Sam Curran leading the side in his absence.
