Australia v England - Fourth Test: Day 1
David Warner made merry on James Anderson's milestone Test

There was plenty of drama on day one of the Boxing Day Test between England and Australia, which saw David Warner score a century and Australia end the day on 244/3 with captain Steve Smith and Shaun Marsh at the crease.

Australian opener Warner was in stunning form as he raced close to a century before lunch. But he had to wait and survived a lucky no ball escape after being dismissed on 99 before he could get his 21st Test century. But he was dismissed soon after by James Anderson, who picked up his 519th Test scalp.

Batting looked like a struggle for the much of the day as Cameron Bancroft, Usman Khawaja found it tough and it was only the explosive Warner and the in-form Steve Smith, who looked at ease on a pitch that isn't offering a great deal for the bowlers.

Here are some interesting numbers from the first day's play:

2 - David Warner became just the second Australian player after David Boon to score multiple Test centuries in Australia's five major Test venues. Warner has two at the MCG and three at Brisbane, Adelaide, WACA and SCG.

3 - Tom Curran became the third English bowler to miss his maiden Test wicket due to a no ball. Ben Stokes in 2013 and Mark Wood in 2015 were the others.

4 - Warner became the fourth-fastest Australian to get to 6,000 Test runs alongside Greg Chappell. He got there in 129 innings, only Don Bradman (68), Ricky Ponting (125) and Matthew Hayden (126) have got to the mark faster than him.

4 - Tom Curran becomes the fourth English player to make his Test debut in a Boxing Day Test. Phil Tufnell was the first, since then W Hegg and Alex Hales were the others.

5 - James Anderson is now fifth in the list of most wickets in Test history. He has 519 wickets, level with Courtney Walsh.

8 - Anderson became just the eighth English bowler to take 100 wickets against Australia in Tests. Ian Botham's 128 is the record while Bob Willis, W Rhodes, S Barnes, D Underwood, A Bedser and Bobby Peel all have over 100 wickets.

15 - Of David Warner's 21 Test hundreds, 15 have come at home. This was his second hundred at the MCG and third against England.

69 - Stuart Broad went 69 overs without a Test wicket before he dismissed Usman Khawaja on day one of the Boxing Day Test. That is the longest he has gone without a wicket, beating his 66.5 over drought vs WI and SA in 2012.

113 - Alastair Cook has played in all of Stuart Broad's 113 Tests, equaling Rahul Dravid's record of playing in every Test of a teammate. Dravid played in all 113 Tests that Sourav Ganguly took part in.

133 - James Anderson is playing in his 133rd Test, which is the most by any fast bowler in Test history. Courtney Walsh previously held the record having played in 132 Tests.
