One of the best Indian batsmen to have played the game, VVS Laxman celebrates his 43rd birthday today. After making his debut for India in 1996, the Hyderabad-born batsman went on to score 8781 runs in 134 test matches at an average of 46 before hanging his boots in 2012.

Laxman's knock of 281 runs against Australia at the Eden Gardens is still one of the most talked-about innings in the history of test cricket. Though the stylish right-handed batsman didn't reach the same heights in the limited-over format, he is still widely loved and considered one of the big-five of the Indian Cricket.
