Commentary

That brings us to the end of our coverage for this BBL clash. It was important two points for both teams, especially the Sydney Thunder who had only won a solitary game prior to this encounter. Alas, the inevitable has happened and play has been called off. It was a great start to the run chase as far as the Sydney Sixers were concerned, scoring 34/1 before rain brought a premature end to the match. Josh Philippe and James Vince came out with a positive intent. Philippe struck a couple of fours before chipping a slowish good length delivery from Chris Green back to the bowler.

James Vince ended the second over in style by smashing the offie for a maximum over the midwicket fence. Kurtis Patterson came out at No 3 and looked in crisp touch, striking a couple of boundaries to get underway. He scooped one over the short-leg fielder and immediately after the rain arrived and cut short the game. Just one more over would have meant we would have gotten a result but it didn't quite materialise. Earlier in the day it was the Sydney Thunder captain Chris Green who won the toss and opted to bat.

Riding on useful knocks from Alex Ross and Daniel Sams, they managed to recover from a shaky start and post a competitive score of 151 in their allotted 20 overs. However, it was well below par and needed something special from the bowlers. For the Sixers, it was Jack Edwards who was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 3/24 while Jackson Bird also chipped in with a couple.

10:04 PM local time, 4:34 PM IST: The covers are still in place. And the inevitable has unfortunately come to fruition - the match has been abandoned and the teams will split points. Have the Thunder just got out of jail with a point here? The Sixers were primed to get ahead of the DLS score at the five-over mark but alas, they will consider themselves unlucky!

10:00 PM local time, 4:30 PM IST: We're hearing that the cutoff time for a five-over game is 10:23 PM local time. That's not too far away...

'We might see nine fielders around the bat and keep them quiet to get through the over and win it if we get back out there' - Alex Ross feels optimistic about the Thunder restricting the Sixers on DLS should the game resume and we see just the minimum requirement of five overs be fulfiled.

09:35 PM local time, 04:05 PM IST: Sean Abbott is happy to engage fans with some autographs. The hoodies are out while some of the kids have bucket hats on presumably to save themselves from the rain. Looks like we're still a while away from a resumption.

09:20 PM local time, 03:50 PM IST: The players are walking off the field as the rain has arrived. The groundsmen have rushed with the covers and we are in for a delay.

A very good over for the Sydney Sixers to round off the powerplay. A pretty identical start for the Sixers but they know exactly how many runs they need. Kurtis Patterson looked in great touch, smashing a boundary over the midwicket fence before ramping one over fine leg for a boundary.

Patterson sits on one knee and brings out a wristy pick-up that flies up and over backward square leg's head. Balloons into the outfield before trickling along to the ropes

That has been picked up beautifully as Patterson gets his first boundary. A short arm pull from the crease and that has been slapped away from his presence.

A firm push down the ground from Vince to end the over. A good over from Sandhu nonetheless. Just four runs coming off that over, Sandhu has got some swing but more importantly he hasn't allowed the batters to put their feet on the accelerator.
