5 possible shocks that could happen at WrestleMania 34

Roman Reigns will face Brock Lesnar w/Paul Heyman at WrestleMania

WrestleMania is the one WWE event of the year where fans are guaranteed to see a few shocks and surprises, and this year’s show in New Orleans is shaping up to be no different.

Fans have already been treated to a couple of big surprises in 2018, with Ronda Rousey becoming a full-time roster member and Daniel Bryan being cleared to return to the ring, but WWE has been known to save their most shocking moments for “The Grandest Stage of Them All”.

In this article, we take a look at five possible shocks that could happen at WrestleMania 34.

#5 Charlotte Flair vs. Asuka steals the show

The biggest women's match in WrestleMania history?

Looking at the 13 matches that have been announced for WrestleMania 34, this year’s card has more potential show-stealers than any ‘Mania in recent memory.

Cedric Alexander vs. Mustafa Ali (Cruiserweight title), The Usos vs. The New Day vs. The Bludgeon Brothers (SmackDown Tag Team titles) and Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns (Universal title) are all going to be Match of the Night contenders, while AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura (WWE title) is a potential Match of the Year contender.

However, there’s also the possibility that Charlotte Flair vs. Asuka (SmackDown Women’s title) outshines them all. The two Superstars are arguably the best female in-ring performers in all of WWE right now and they’ll be hoping to produce the greatest women’s match in WrestleMania history.

#4 The Rock appears in the Kurt Angle & Ronda Rousey vs. Triple H & Stephanie McMahon match

Ronda Rousey helped The Rock at WrestleMania 31

The Rock is heavily rumoured to be making an appearance at WrestleMania 34, with many people expecting him to be involved in a sing-a-long segment with Elias.

However, as entertaining as that would undoubtedly be, there’s also a small chance that he could feature in the Kurt Angle & Ronda Rousey vs. Triple H & Stephanie McMahon match – something he was reportedly asked to be a part of instead of Angle.

“The Great One” first introduced Rousey to the WWE Universe at WrestleMania 31, where they worked together to lay the Smackdown (both verbally and physically) on Triple H and Stephanie, so it would make sense for him to appear again on her debut.

As for the possible circumstances, perhaps Angle suffers an ‘injury’ and can’t continue, so The Rock evens up the numbers by taking out Triple H while the referee is down?

#3 Shane McMahon turns against Daniel Bryan

Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon don't always get along

WrestleMania will become ‘YestleMania’ when Daniel Bryan makes his long-awaited return to the squared circle to team with Shane McMahon against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn in New Orleans.

However, let's not forget that Bryan and Shane generally don’t get along very well, and no amount of hugging will mask the flaws in their rocky relationship.

In fact, given the way they have acted around each other for the last four months, many people thought D-Bry would face the SmackDown Commissioner, not team up with him, in his first match back if he were ever to get cleared.

Instead, the dysfunctional duo will team up to face their two mutual enemies at WrestleMania, but don't count out Shane betraying the recently cleared Bryan to set up a match further down the line between the two authority figures.

#2 John Cena vs. The Undertaker doesn’t happen

John Cena has been desperate to summon The Undertaker for WrestleMania

John Cena has continually stated in the lead-up to WrestleMania 34 that he will attend the event as a fan if The Undertaker doesn’t answer his challenge to face him at this year’s show.

Of course, that sounded ridiculous when he first said it three weeks ago, but as time ticks on and we get closer to WrestleMania, “The Deadman” is yet to respond and it looks increasingly likely that Cena really will (at least initially) begin the show by sitting ringside with fans.

The Undertaker is still expected to appear at ‘Mania, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the match will happen. This year’s card is more stacked than ever, so WWE might decide to save the match for a later date and merely set it up in New Orleans by having ‘Taker confront Cena.

#1 Roman Reigns aligns with Paul Heyman

P
Brock Lesnar is set to leave WWE in 2018

There have been so many rumours circulating recently about Paul Heyman potentially becoming an advocate for Roman Reigns, but it would still be considered a huge shock if their alliance were to begin in the main event of WrestleMania.

Heyman is too good at what he does for WWE to let him leave when Brock Lesnar inevitably departs for UFC, which looks set to happen shortly after WrestleMania, and the former ECW owner has plenty of potential clients who he could represent instead of “The Beast”.

Ronda Rousey has been mentioned, for obvious reasons, while Reigns’ name continues to crop up on a seemingly daily basis. Either way, it looks like there will be a new ‘Paul Heyman Guy’ in WWE in the next couple of months – and that’s not a prediction, it’s a spoiler!
