Alberto Del Rio and Paige have made headlines recently. Sadly, it’s not been because of their wrestling skills. Here are two superstars who were unhappy with their position in the company in recent times, and in their unhappiness found solace in the company of one another.
After all, both of them had been top superstars once upon a time, but their recent runs have been underwhelming to say the least. Recently it’s been speculated that WWE official Mark Carrano had harassed both superstars, trying to get them to break up.
One assumes that is the reason why they were drafted to two different brands (Paige to Raw, and Del Rio to Smackdown). We believe, from the rumors that we hear, that both Del Rio and Paige will end their careers with WWE soon. We’re sad to see them go, but hey...the show must go on, right?

But this is not the first time that romance has destroyed a career within World Wrestling Entertainment. Let’s look at 5 other instances of the same.
#5 The release of Kenny Doane
Remember Kenny from the Spirit Squad? We don’t blame you if you don’t. Unlike his girlfriend Mickey James who was in big time feuds with Trish Stratus and Lita, and went on to become Women’s Champion, Kenny’s career went nowhere throughout his run with WWE.
So, as is quite common in the business, the top female star fell for the top male superstar in the company. And that would be none other than the 5 knuckle shuffle himself- John Cena. Kenny Doane alleges that when he was engaged to Mickey James, he caught Mickey in the act of googling for rumors linking her and Cena.
When confronted, she broke down. This relationship would lead to Kenny being transferred to Smackdown, and losing whatever momentum he had going on Raw. Ultimately, he would get fired. A truly tragic tale of heartbreak and misfortune.
#4 Macho Man Randy Savage’s non-comeback
At this point, this is only spectulation, although there is enough information on the internet to support this claim. It is rumored that during his final year with WWE, Randy Savage had a love affair with Stephanie McMahon, something Vince McMahon found out about many years later.
And as a result of the same, while every superstar from the Golden Era of WWE made a comeback, Macho Man Randy Savage never did. Savage had a great run in WCW and TNA as well, but unlike Bret Hart, Ultimate Warrior and Hulk Hogan who buried the hatchet with Vince McMahon, Savage never did.
What probably irks Vince so much is that at the time of the rumored affair, Stephanie was only 17. Sure, his career was already ‘made’ by then, but who says he couldn’t have enjoyed another lengthy run like his peers did in WWE?

#3 The John Morrison/Melina drama
John Morrison was one of the most gifted WWE superstars of all time. With a sensational look and incredible set of moves, he was setting the WWE universe ablaze. However, what worked against him was his ‘on and off’ relationship with Melina.
During one of his off phases, Batista and Melina decided to hook up. And as a result, Morrison was devastated. Because of this never-ending drama, tensions started to escalate backstage. Morrison began to get buried on screen, and soon after, both superstars were released.
A tragic end for a bright, agile and promising star. Of course, he’s enjoying a lucrative independent career now.
#2 The demise of Chyna’s career
The Triple H-Chyna tragic tale is well known in the wrestling business. They were seeing one another for a long period of time, through their DX run; when suddenly Triple H fell for the Boss’ daughter- Stephanie McMahon.
Hunter and Stephanie hid their affair for the longest duration, and when Chyna found out things were never the same again. She’s mentioned the betrayal through her torrid life, and one can imagine that it haunted her even in her final days. RIP Chyna.
#1 Matt Hardy got fired for Lita’s betrayal
Matt Hardy and Lita were the hot couple through the Attitude and Ruthless Aggression Eras. Sadly, their love was not meant to last. Matt Hardy found out that Lita had been cheating on him, with his best friend Edge. And their issues spiraled out of control then.
Things got heated backstage, and WWE was forced to let go of Matt Hardy, before fan support brought him back. Matt Hardy and Edge even worked a successful program not involving Senor Benjamin or dilapidated boats.
