6 best and worst this week from Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live

Strow
Strowman and Reigns will fight for the Universal Championship at Hell in a Cell

WWE has picked up a lot of momentum heading towards Hell in a Cell. There are a lot of intriguing feuds at the moment that have managed to capture the imagination of the fans. As a result, Hell in a Cell is shaping up to be a must watch event.

This week featured two solid, if not spectacular, episodes of Raw and SmackDown. There were some great matches as well as storyline progression.

Here we take a look back at the best and worst of WWE this week.

#1 Worst: Jeff Hardy

J
Jeff Hardy's comeback to the WWE seems to be a bust

Randy Orton vs Jeff Hardy held a lot of promise in the beginning, especially after Orton brought back the ruthlessness of his 'Legend Killer' days. But since then the excitement around the feud has faded away, and much of that is down to Jeff Hardy.

Hardy has quite clearly lost a step in the ring, and his promos have been hard to get through. It actually feels disappointing that this match will be taking place inside 'Hell in a Cell' instead of much more heated rivalries like Becky and Flair, or Styles and Joe.

#2 Best: Daniel Bryan vs Andrade "Cien" Almas

Brya
Bryan and Almas faced each other on SmackDown in a singles match.

Almas has had a rough start to his main roster run after being involved in an underwhelming feud with Rusev. But he might just have kick started his career with an impressive performance against Daniel Bryan this past week on SmackDown.

Both men are great in-ring workers, and they showcased their skills in a match that clearly stole the show at SmackDown. Even a late interference from The Miz could not hurt this match, as it furthered the feud between Bryan and Miz while protecting all of the competitors involved at the same time.

Almas is a great competitor, and will be a huge success in the WWE if the company can use him properly. A future feud with Daniel Bryan should not be out of question, considering the chemistry the two men showed this week.

#3 Worst: Finn Balor's feud with Baron Corbin continues

B
Balor defeated Corbin at SummerSlam after bringing back 'The Demon'

It is really confusing to understand WWE's decision to continue this feud. It was very underwhelming in the first place, and should have been laid to rest after Balor convincingly defeated Corbin at SummerSlam as he brought back his 'Demon' persona.

It seemed like things were looking up for Balor after he challenged Reigns for the Universal Championship last week on Raw. But now it seems that we are back to square one after he reignited his feud with Corbin this week on Raw.

#4 Best: Seth Rollins vs Kevin Owens for the Intercontinental Championship

Ro
Rollins defended the Intercontinental Championship against Kevin Owens this week.

These two men stole the show on Raw this week. This was a reminder to the WWE Universe of how good Kevin Owens is when he is not busy getting squashed by Braun Strowman.

It was a great way to reintroduce the open challenge to the WWE Universe, and was also a much needed platform for Owens to bounce back after getting his ass kicked for months by Strowman.

Both Rollins and Owens are two of the best wrestlers on the planet, and they put on a match worthy of their reputations. This match will go a long way in WWE's recent quest to restore the prestige of the Intercontinental Championship.

#5 Worst: Braun Strowman heel turn

Braun
Braun Strowman turned heel by aligning himself with Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler

At this point, it has become embarrassing to watch the WWE try to somehow get the fans to cheer for Roman Reigns. This time around, they decided that turning one of the most popular superstars on the roster heel would prove to be the key in getting the fans to finally embrace Roman Reigns.

We are pretty sure though that come Hell in a Cell, it will be 'The Monster Among Men' who the WWE Universe will be rooting for. This is doomed to be another failed attempt to get Reigns over as a babyface.

One would think that the company would have learned its lesson by now after years of failure, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

#6 Best: Kevin Owens quits

Ke
Kevin Owens ended up losing again this week

After weeks of frustration, Kevin Owens finally reached his breaking point after losing to Seth Rollins despite a spectacular effort. As a result, he decided to 'quit' the company after the match.

This is the right move on the WWE's part as Owens does need to go away for some time after getting his reputation badly damaged in his feud with Strowman. When Owens first came on to the main roster, he was booked as the Prizefighter who would take on any guy at any time. But in the past few years, he has been booked as nothing more than a coward who would much rather weasel out of a situation instead of fighting.

This break will do wonders for Owens as he can come back with a fresh character. And who knows, he might just bring Chris Jericho with him!
