The WWE Universal Championship is the top prize in the wrestling industry today, but it lost its credibility due to part-time champions like Brock Lesnar and Goldberg. Part-time champions hurt the credibility of the title.
At SummerSlam 2018, Roman Reigns defeated Brock Lesnar, and finally won the Universal Championship. After a long time, there was finally a full-time Universal Champion, but Reigns had to relinquish the Universal Championship because of a health issue.
The triple threat match between Reigns, Strowman, and Lesnar scheduled to take place on Crown Jewel was changed to Brock Lesnar vs Braun Strowman.
At Crown Jewel, Brock Lesnar defeated Braun Strowman, winning the Universal Championship for a second time. Once again, the Universal Championship is in the hands of a part-time wrestler, but I suspect it won't be around Lesnar's waist for a long time.
With Brock Lesnar as champion, one question arises - who will defeat Lesnar for the Universal Championship? In this article, I am going to list four superstars who could defeat Lesnar for the Universal Championship.
#4 Finn Balor
Finn Balor was the first ever Universal Champion. He had to relinquish the title due to an injury. He got another opportunity to capture the Universal Championship when Reigns offered him a match on Raw, but he lost that match.
Finn Balor is currently involved in meaningless feuds which are not doing him any good. He is a superstar who always gets the crowd cheering. Balor is a commendable athlete, and has great in-ring as well as promo skills. He cannot defeat Lesnar as Finn Balor, but he could surely slay The Beast as 'The Demon King'.
After seeing AJ Styles and Lesnar produce a great match at the 2017 WWE Survivor Series, Balor could have a match of the same or even better quality. If anyone deserves to take the championship from Lesnar, it is the man who first held the title.
#3 Bobby Lashley
Bobby Lashley vs Brock Lesnar is a dream match for a huge number of wrestling fans around the globe. Both superstars are incredibly strong and athletic, and a match between them would certainly not disappoint.
Bobby Lashley is a powerhouse, and with his recent heel turn, he has solidified his position as a dominant heel on Raw. A feud between these two men would certainly be a treat if the feud is booked properly.
With their MMA experience also coming into play, there is a lot of exciting stuff which could be done with the feud. Lashley is one of the few superstars who could carry the responsibility of being the Universal Champion.
If we think logically, Lashley still deserves a shot at the Universal Championship after he defeated Roman Reigns clean at Extreme Rules. Lashley currently is being booked in meaningless feuds, and winning the Universal Championship from Brock Lesnar could do wonders for him, and certainly establish him as a top superstar in the company.
#2 Drew McIntyre
Drew McIntyre, who was once part of 3MB, left the WWE to work for independent wrestling promotions. He worked harder than ever, improved his in-ring and promo skills, and made a name for himself outside of WWE.
He made his return to WWE as part of the NXT brand. He became the NXT Champion, and was one of the most dominant champions NXT has ever had.
McIntyre has got all the characteristics to be the Universal Champion. He is incredible in the ring, as well as on the mic, and WWE management is reportedly happy with his progress.
The feud between McIntyre and Lesnar would certainly be an exciting one as both of them are incredible performers, and could give the fans a classic rivalry.
'The Scottish Psychopath' hasn't been pinned in a match ever since debuting on the main roster. This proves that WWE is protecting him, and they see a future superstar in him. Winning the Universal Championship from Brock Lesnar could certainly boost his career to the next level, and establish him as the new face of WWE.
#1 Braun Strowman
Braun Strowman lost the match against Brock Lesnar at Crown Jewel. Before the match started, Strowman was attacked by Corbin with the Universal Championship belt. Lesnar took advantage of it and delivered multiple F5's to 'The Monster Among Men', and eventually pinned Strowman, once again capturing the Universal Championship.
Strowman didn't lose that match clean, and could demand a rematch for the Universal Championship on the upcoming episode of Raw. Strowman certainly has the ability to be the next Universal Champion.
According to rumours, Lesnar will soon be heading over to UFC, and The Monster Among Men is certainly one of the top contenders to dethrone Brock Lesnar as the Universal Champion.
After becoming the Universal Champion, Braun could then be challenged by different opponents, and this would open many opportunities for other superstars as well as Braun himself.
