The name has been suggested by the fans of the franchise. The franchise eventually settled on "Washington Commanders" after sorting through more than 40,000 fan suggestions in honor of the US capital's association with the military.
The current Washington Commanders home stadium is the FedEx Field. It was originally built as the Jack Kent Cooke Stadium in 1997. FedExField was built as a replacement for Washington's prior venue. From 2004 until 2010, it had the largest seating capacity in the NFL at over 91,000. As of 2015, the capacity is 82,000.
