The Colts originated in Baltimore where horse racing was a great sport and horses are greatly revered in the area. The original Baltimore Colts logo was a horse with a football and a helmet. The current Indianapolis Colts logo of a horseshoe was introduced in 1979. It symbolizes good luck, professionalism and stability. The horseshoe is also an ode to the origin city of the Colts.

Indianapolis Colts’ main reason for shifting from Baltimore was that the stadium where they played was inadequate to host them. The Memorial Stadium in Baltimore was home to both the Colts and also the Baltimore Orioles of the MLB. Issues such as team revenue from the stadium also factored into the move of the Colts from Baltimore to Indianapolis.
